What should I do in London?

RainingOnMyFace · 17/04/2024 22:06

I now live in the North. I used to live in London in 2006-2009ish but that was years ago.

However my current role will see me in London for four nights next week, free to do as I please and eat where I please, all alone and without my little family.

I never get to sneak off to the big city like this, and I want to make the absolute most of it because I don't enjoy leaving my kids, so if I'm having to, I want to squeeze a lot of fun into it.

I will stay 2 nights near regents part. Then two nights near finchley Road.

I can't afford big ticket things like the London Eye, but if you were me, what would you do?

Museums? Walks? Restaurants?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Also to add! If you can’t get a ticket to the sky garden as it is very popular! There’s another one down the road equally as good but no bar 😂

Look for rush tickets if you can to see a show. Usually about £20/£25. There are also lotteries for a few shows.

travel down the river after dark in an Uber boat. All the bridges have been lit up so it looks great.

Hunterian museum is very interesting. Free and small so good for an hour or so.

Some of the museums run ‘lates’ where they are open in the evenings which are quite fun.

What time do you finish work. The sun sets at 7.30 at the moment. Walk in Regents Park? Brick lane, look at shops, bagel or currey. Southbank centre. Tate britain/ modern. Barbican centre. Check the late night opening for exhibitions. I'd advise you to be careful around Leicester Square, its crime central. But youll look like an office worker rather than a tourist. Have fun.

Do you have any more info about this? I used to go to the Booth at Leicester Square and get a £10 les mis, about 20 years ago. Long gone now :-(

It's all online now.... https://officiallondontheatre.com/tkts/

The British Library Treasures

Eat at a food market - Mercato Metropole, Seven Dials, Camden.....

Sky Garden or similar. The one in Fenchurch Street you don't have to book.

Go for a drink on a roof top bar. - there are loads. A few near Trafalgar Square.

See if there is a lecture at a museum you can attend one evening.

Visit the Wellcome Collection - two fab exhibitions in there at the moment.

See another show......or go see a band on night.

Wander and have fun.

Last time I was in London on my own for the week I went to the globe, the national theatre twice and the pictures. Theatre was really cheap as east to get one seat on own fro the apps above.

Head to Portobello and watch a film in The Electric Cinema. It's my absolute favourite place. Snuggle up with a glass of wine and enjoy a film in the most wonderful place.

Then pop next door for a burger or ribs for 50% off!!

They deliver food to your seat if you want as well.

The todaytix app covers a lot of the rush and lottery tickets for shows.

If there is anything in particular you want to see always worth checking the main show page the day before or morning of as most shows have dynamic pricing these days.
