Achy thigh when walking for long

My right thigh (the front of thigh) sometimes feels achy after walking long. Is anyone the same?

I'm worrying about PAD but I can find my pulse on my foot so it's unlikely to be that, I think.

Anyone has achy thighs when walking?

I get a burning sensation in my thigh. At the front, after a long walk.

@MenoBabe it's not burning but a dull ache.

The achy feeling usually stop when I rest. But since yesterday it's has been constant. I'm worrying about it being Peripheral Artery Disease PAD or DVT.

I fell and twisted my ankle ten days ago, not sure if it's related?

It's still achy. It's in the joint area on the top of the leg (the groin?) and the front of the outer thigh.

Not sure if this need to be looked at or something minor?

I'm 54, could it be menopause?

I don't want to rush to the doctor so asking for advice here.

I'm not a Dr, but when I injure a foot or leg, it's not unusual to start feeling pain in the other leg, especially after exercise, as your body compensations for the injury by over-using the good leg, if that makes any sense?

@Ifailed I've twisted my right ankle and it's the right thigh that is achy.

@BobaTea, bang goes my theory!

has your gait changed at all after your ankle injury, that could well cause pain?

Report
BobaTea · 17/04/2024 12:18

@Ifailed nothing has changed. My ankle looks fine now. No more bruising or swelling. I'm not sure if it's sprained or broken. It was only mildly painful, with only a bit of swelling and bruising so I didn't get it checked. I hope it's only a sprain.

I'm worrying about possible blood clot? But there is no other symptoms apart from the achy thigh and groin. I'm such a worrier, sigh.

It's more likely to be that your gait has slightly changed . See a physio if it doesn't resolve or look up some exercises on YouTube for it.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor sorry to be dumb but how can I tell if my gait has changed? If so, does it cause achy thigh and groin?

This is how the osteoarthritis in my hip first manifested. It took a long time to progress - and to be diagnosed - but a dull ache in the groin/top of thigh was the starting point.

You possibly pulled something when you hurt your ankle. See a physiotherapist if doesn't improve soon.

You can't tell,it o oy has to be subtle to make a difference. A physio can tell though.

I have health anxiety that's why I don't want to go to doctor if it's not serious. So it's unlikely to be a blood clot/DVT/PAD?

If I had an achy leg I'd presume I'd over done it when walking , it wouldn't occur to me that I had a clot unless the leg was swollen or warm to the touch. Take some ibuprofen and see if that helps.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I'm only worrying because I googled and it says that sometimes an injury such as a sprained or broken ankle can cause blood clot.

I guess no other symptoms means it's not.

Sounds like sciatica.

I went out for a walk and it wasn't achy until I came home and rest. So it's on and off. Mostly on then off.

I've been seen at the UTC at the hospital. The doctor was quite dismissive, didn't feel or check my leg. So I asked for a d dimer blood test. He said he can request one but he will not deal with the results. The results will be sent to the GP. So after the blood test I was told to go. Do UTC/A&E send blood results to GP? From past experiences I don't think they do?

Yeah I get it. But I've had a hip replacement so I associate it with that. I mean it might not be that, but I'm so used to aches and pains I dismiss the minor ones now. I do have osteoarthritis all over the shop (hence the hip replacement) I'm 49.

This, doesn't necessarily even need to be the opposite leg.

I have an ankle injury and when it flares up, I often get knee pain in the same leg because my gait alters slightly. It's highly likely related.
