...if you can remember it!

Mine is tomorrow - my first official day with my own full class.

I’m looking forward to getting it over and done with!

I remember the total terror! I had trained in one subject but my first morning was teaching a different one. The hod had given me precisely no support or guidance. I very nearly ran out of the school I was so scared. Glad I didn't though as now in my 10th year at the same school and HOD myself (and I offer Nqts a lot more support than I got!). How is your week going?

I was lucky enough to have been invited to apply for a job that came up in the school I did my final Teaching prac in, so felt more confident than many 'Probationers' (as we were called then), having 'practised' the term before.
Of course it is nerve racking, as starting any new job is, but I had a lovely supportive staff team, and I don't think any of my lovely first class were in any way aware I was 'new' or 'nervous'.
I had a class of 'Middles' as they were known then (would be Yr1 now) Smile

I remember going out into the playground to pick up my line and thinking ‘oh shit’ 😂

I felt like a proper teacher when I did the register!

A girl in Year 9 came to tell me she didn't feel well and promptly projectile vomited all over some other children!

First day as a qualified teacher was November 2011, I’d interviewed on the Friday and started on Monday as a maternity cover, but only till Xmas as they were readvertising (it wasn’t the job I’d originally applied for). I seem to remember going home pretty pleased with how it went, kids and staff were nice etc, don’t know why the school has such a bad rep. Think they gave me the nice classes for my first day! 😂 it went downhill from there! Make sure you buy yourself something lovely with your first lot of wages! I bought some gorgeous leather boots, they’re trashed but I refuse to get rid!

Mine was 21 years ago. I was 26 and looked much much younger, so much so that a parent asked if I was doing work experience from the local secondary school. Grin I was so nervous beforehand but as soon as the children arrived I immediately relaxed and was so engrossed that before I knew it, it was home time.

@year5teacher How was your first day today?

Mine was a while ago now. In a 6th form college. I can still remember standing at the classroom door, waiting for the class to arrive and feeling excited and terrified in equal measure Grin

Once I got in there and got going it was fine.

I still get the jitters on the first day of termGrin

Good luck and enjoy! You'll be great Grin
