Would this really be part-time?

I have seen a part-time teaching job advertised for Sep. Five mornings pw, finish at 12.30. Means i could pick my kids up every day- getting them to school in the mornings would be something i'd have to work out! Would i EVER get out of school before 2.00? Is it really part-time? Would i be mad to apply?

Primary. Job share with deputy head. What do you think? I would teach all English and Maths.

Is there time in there to plan together and handover and do reports etc? I was secondary though and not for a few years. Would they expect you to cover if Deputy off on other roles or stepping up for Head?

You need to find out when your PPA time is. It may be that they offer to pay you for your 10% non contact time, for you to take at a time that works for you.

Whether you will ever leave before 2.00pm depends entirely on how strict you are with yourself. I would be absolutely rubbish at it!

It also depends on whether the deputy headteacher sticks strictly to her afternoons, or if you will be asked to cover in her absence.

Bear in mind that although it’s 0.5 time on paper, in reality if you teach all the mornings you will be much more responsible for the overall progress/assessment/marking etc of the class as a whole since I’m assuming you’d have the lion’s share of English and Maths...

I covered pm of a pt teacher who did mornings. Other teachers were annoyed as they saw her in the afternoons marking and planning and saw it as extra PPA time. But in reality she was doing the extra 2 hours (maybe more) that ft teachers would do after school. She would then leave at 2.30 to collect her son.
She got 1 hour (if I remember correctly) of PPA each week in the morning.
So it depends on how you look at it Leave at 12.30 but take planning and work with you. Or compete it in school in the afternoon and leave with nothing to do in the evenings!

Will you be paid more than 0.5? Because you will certainly be doing more work than 0.5.

I did for a year. Left between 1.30 - 2 every day with some bits to bring home. By time I got in it was time to pick up my own children so no real time to self. Will you be expected to stay for a staff meeting? I wasn’t but then felt totally out of loop. Xx

If you do mornings only on supply, you get paid more than half a day (mornings in my school are 3h 15 and afternoons are only 2h). Will you get more than 0.5?

You will have all the heavy marking load-with that comes more important observations, assessments, the bits parents often want to talk about at parents evenings etc. Will you stay and mark or take the books home?

I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole-I have to say. I’d rather do three days and have 2 clear days off.

Having slept (or not!) on it, i think i will avoid it. I will listen to your wise words and my gut (which said no straight away-hence the post). I'd rather do 3 days straight too and be away from it for the rest of the time.

Wouldn't you be out of the loop a lot? E.g. all meetings after school, you would be getting the info secondhand (providing someone remembered to tell you ) And no lunchtimes to catch up on informal stuff. And gossip obvs. And agree, this is not 0.5, more 0.6. Sounds ok if you don't want to be planning or marking etc at weekends as you could stay and do it in the afternoon but I bet you would end up doing full days if DH busy and all the childcare angst that would go with that.

Why not apply? These jobs have a way of evolving anyway! Especially as the deputy head will need to be flexible.

There's no harm in going forninterview and asking questions

All Primary school jobs I've ever gone fore have welcomed an informal look round first. You get a feel for the school, you can ask the questions then make your mind up.

If you are teaching until 12.30, it would be a lot more than 0.5 .... approx 3.5 hours against 1.5 not working. That sounds good in terms of salary plus still collecting your own dc from school.
I would be concerned about never being in a staff meeting though, and being 'out the loop'.
In terms of what time you leave, that would be up to you, like a lot of teaching jobs, whether you prefer to work in school or take work home.
I never wanted to do a 1/2 day when I went PT, as it can be difficult to just leave, especially when you need access to the photocopier or something from the resources room or you need to chat to another member of staff about something etc. - not all work can be done at home, but there is a lot to be said for working mornings only.
Only you will know.
Part time roles aren't that easy to come by, so if you think you'll like it, then apply.

I'd do that. I'd stay and work in the afternoons and have my evening and weekend free.
