The litter tray

How long in cattery?

We are planning a long-awaited holiday in DH's home country next month and we were thinking of doing two weeks, but we're unsure about leaving our two cats for that long. The trip will take in a wedding so we're a bit flexible but not that much.

DH doesn't want a sitter coming to the house as he is paranoid 🧟 🙄

My mum can do a week but not two, and won't have her car to do drop-off or pickup from the cattery. I could book and pay for a taxi to the next village to the cattery but I don't know if that's fair on her. Plus she can't do the week we particularly want.

Simplest thing is a cattery for two weeks but is that too long?

Best thing for the cats I think is to convince DH about the sitter! Maybe with my mum doing a week because she says she'd like to come to my house for a change of scene.

Go for a decent cattery, if anything like our 2 were ,they moaned all the way there and all the way back ,soon settled back into their home when we got back tho

I think I'm going to ask the one person in the street who hasn't lived here for 5000 years and doesn't have a million relatives to feed her cats who she uses 😺

The disruption for the cat is in the initial move. Time doesn’t mean the same to them, so two weeks is not much different to one as far as the cat knows. Ours had to be in for over 6 weeks and after the first couple of days continued to be fine and settled back home within 24 hours.

I’d definitely go for a sitter. Do your research first and find one well established in your area with years of good reviews. It’ll be easier to convince him

Yes try and persuade him re cat sitter

They'll be much happier in their home environment

Plenty of cat sitters on catinaflat - they can do 1 or 2 visits a day or stay the whole week
