Talk to me re black cats…

Can you tell me about and show me your black cats please?

My beautiful part bengal died about 4 months ago and we’re getting another kitten in January. We chose a lovely little black kitten. My partner was drawn to him and I know black cats often are the hardest to re home.

Are they as loving as I hear? Mine will probably be an indoor cat (no debates please) will he be tolerable of that?

Thanks!

I avoided getting the fish for a long time. I thought it'd be a flash in the pan. I was right. It's now been discarded, along with all the other toys.

My (mostly) black cat is friendly, playful and cuddly. He’s very cute, loves me, likes most other people. Good stuff all round.

However, he only gets a go with the family brain cell once a week. Today it was not his turn, so he sat in the wet shower, then cried because his bum and legs were wet…

I have a lovely black rescue boy. He decided I was his person, on his terms but usually at 5am. His favourite thing is to sit in the bath and paw at the taps to make them drip.

We went away recently and he went to the cattery. Since he came back he has decided he loves me more than ever and hasn't stopped purring. He cuddles up to me every night with his paw gently touching my cheek. I don't get much sleep but he is just so damn cute

Re-inforcing the Black Cats Don't Do Good Photos Theory

Our little Female Cat in the clean towel box ( black/grey towels this time)
DD didn't think I'll just move her from the clean laundry , nope she photographs her !

And looking closely at that leg , there might be some tabby genes in there ..

Oh and Black Cats (plural) like to gaslight you by making you not be able to identify them. Ours have very subtle differences mainly the way they move and the shape of their noses .
He has two ear tufts , she has one tufty ear
If I say to DH "Was that him or her and are they carrrying anything" he is "can't tell at that speed"

I have threatened them with pink and blue collars . They give me a "The Hell You Will" look Wink

We brought this handsome chap home today; he's utterly gorgeous and so tiny (smallest of the litter). He's the friendliest kitten I've ever met and I'm completely smitten.

Ahh he is gorgeous but I give your lovely houseplants a week at best till they're shredded or knocked over Grin
My two black cats are 4yo bro/sis
( I'll find a photo of them later)

I have just risked life and limb putting her flea drops on - she was in a box, I stealthed up with the pipette , asked DD if she wanted to hold or dose .
DD (wisely) said "neither"
Did the 'scruff hold' as the vet adviced and got properly hissed at .
Luckily 'scruff hold' stopped her very pointy teeth making contact but lets not forget The Claws .
Just need to find her brother now .

<Disclaimer>
I know my place . We are a family of 4 adults and the cats regard me as persona non grata even though I am the one who trawled the Cat Rescue websites to choose Our cats and arrange it ( the wanting cats was DH wish but obviously we were all on board )
I'm the one who takes them to the vet (DH doesn't drive) and they have long memories !

I adore black cats. We were going to get black ones this time, but our current terrible twosome (who are tabby and white) came up for adoption at just the right time and were too adorable to turn down. Black cats will absolutely feature in our future though.

My two came to me as strays. They are adorable and so easy going. Flint the small one, loves being outside and having adventures. The big one, Ambrose, stays close to home, is affectionate but likes his space.

This is Gizmo, sitting on my old car. (now dead. The car that is)
The following conversation took place.

Me: Come on Gizmo, were going for a short drive.

Gizmo: No way Jose.

Me: We are not going to the vet. It`s just a short drive.

Gizmo: Yeah right.

Gizmo not beliving me for a second, as he knows the only time he gets thrown into the car is when he is going to the one man he loves to hate. 10 mins later Gizmo was confirmed in his belief.

My little black cat was an utter sod.

The most annoying thing not the launching herself from the top of the wardrobe onto my chest at 4am nor going to sleep on an open window frame and giving me conniptions in case she fell off was that for a black cat, her undercoat was grey, which meant she trashed both white AND black clothes.

Oh, and when she got old, she turned auburn. Made a change from dust coloured in the summer (she loved dustbaths, probably because she was functioning as a mini solar panel). Then I had to deal with black fur, grey fur and dark red fur.

She also went deaf and blind, but nobody else noticed for a couple of years.

'Why do you always bang your hand on the floor twice when you call the cat?'

'Umm, because she needs to feel where I am?'

'Why?'

'Because she can't hear or see me'.

'What? Don't be silly, of course she can - CAT! CATTY CATTY CAT-CAT! CAAAAAAAT! CAAAAAAATTTTTTTT [waves arms frantically whilst Cat sits in peaceful repose]- oh. Why didn't you say anything?'

'She has other senses, you know' [opens tin, watches for the moment the smell hit her nose, whiskers twitch and she immediately makes beeline for me, jumping up onto the kitchen chair without a single issue]

My mum has a black cat, he is exactly like a mini panther!

He would go crazy if not allowed out though, he's a hunter and often brings back 'gifts' for my mum.

He is affectionate on his terms (bit like all cats) and does like to bite ankles if they walk too close to his face 😬

House panther! I love that.

I’m quite nervous as my cat who died this year was my first and his temperament (and the fact he was an indoor cat) meant he almost acted like a dog. I was absolutely his slave and loved him like a child. So I’m quite nervous that I will not love him, that sounds so stupid doesn’t it?

However, I am excited and ready for a new cat. We miss having one running around the place and they make a house a home. We pick him up one week today! 😱 If this thread is still going I shall post a pic

Here are my 2 lovely cats. They are both sisters who we've had since kittens and are now 9 years old. They are both happy and content indoor cats and are very affectionate. They love their cuddles and would lay there being stroked all day if they could. They are also brilliant with the kids.

I’ve no idea if colour affects temperament but my black cat is incredibly friendly, loving and forgiving it’s true.

My beautiful Cleo was so quiet and gentle. She was PTS a few years back, aged 16. She used to bring things home - alive. Frogs, birds, mice. She even came home with pegs, stones, and once, a sausage from someone's BBQ

We currently have 2 but had 3 until recently when one died aged 19. She was the softest thing, super cuddly and loud. Then we have an ex stray boy who rules the house, and a younger girl who needs cuddles at 5am when she misses us.

Had / have lots of others in all colours and they're all fab but the black ones are always a bit extra special.

Mine has absolutely no idea she's a cat, she's as daft as they come and always getting into mischief but also thinks she's a child/dog hybrid Grin very loving, but don't think she'd tolerate being indoor only, she climbs the walls when I keep her and her sister in for a few days over Christmas/if I'm away and someone's feeding them. But they went out from young adulthood so you'd probably be ok indoors if they've never known different.
