The litter tray

She used the purpose bought cat bed!

15 months ago when I accepted my fate that the Siberian I was fostering would never be leaving I bought her a bed. She of course ignored it and choose my office chair and cushion.
Thursday this week I picked the forsaken bed up from my bedroom floor gave it a poof and tidy before my cleaner came. Then later in the day I put it back where it had been previously ignored. Since then she has left the bed only to eat and use her litter tray.
It would seem a purpose bought bed needs to be ignored for a critical length of time before it can be used!

I made the awful mistake of washing it Shock and he hasn't been near it since!

That’s the problem ! When they realise you’ve spotted their ‘capitulation’ - indeed even taken photos and - gasp - shared them - they may revert to their former haughty rejection.
Funny things.
When one of mine finally used a cat bed we weren’t allowed to look at him or even talk about it. We had to completely ignore it and even silence would make him consider rejecting it (even though he was comfy and snug).

There is some trickery going on here

When he realises I think he will reject it

My wife bought a cat bed which was unused for months until I placed a sweaty t-shirt of mine over it, one night, and the cat slept in it that night and ever since.

@Toddlerteaplease we got a lovely towel set in baskets for our wedding last year, Leo claimed the smaller basket instantly... He's far too big for it now, but if we dare have the audacity to move it from the sacred spot then on our heads be it!

We bought the wrong scratch post once. He sprayed the side of the bed (dhs side obv not mine).

We exchanged it for the correct scratch post.

I bought madam a scratching post 15 years ago. It is still stitting in my living room absolutely pristine, unlike the sofa.

My fluffy boy loves the £6.00 camp chair from decathlon. Doesn't quite go with the rest of the lounge but the boy is happy!! This has reminded me to take the purpose bought beds to the local rescue.

Ernie never slept in his bought bed till he was 4 and too big for it

We've got bed wars going on with Colin. Totally ignored his igloo, and had taken to our old teddy bear mattress protector under the bed. He also sleeps on a fluffy blankie

So I bought him a donut bed, fabric is the same as the blankie, he refuses point blank to go in it

I gave him the blankie back

Obviously I did not believe this until the photographic evidence.
Any chance she could be pregnant ?? Though this because obviously there has to be some huge reason for this odd behaviour !!!

Ah see my cat has her own double bed that she sleeps on.

She just allows me to share it at night Grin

Mine make sure to use the purpose bought bed just enough that we can't get rid of it yet it still stands empty and pointless for 98% of the year. You just never know when they might want it again!

It’s clearly an aberration. She’ll go back to ignoring it tomorrow.

I had a wicker basket that I put behind a chair before I threw it out. They'd never touched it before but suddenly Snorg loved it. It's now in my bedroom and she sleeps in it every night!

We just extended our house and in her last 'tour' p/a MIL asked if its now big enough for us to actually buy some little cat beds for the ginger pair.
The ginger pair are 14 years old. Does she honestly think there's no official purpose-bought cat beds because the house was too small?

Ginger boy prefers a dining chair to sleep on.
Ginger girl prefers DH. Hmm

Ours will only sleep on the cat bed if it’s upside down. Apparently the fluffiness is too comfy for her. The rest of the time she wants to live in a box.

Oops, wrong photo. That’s his peaceful pine forest being invaded by the kitten who definitely wasn’t going to be able to make it up the cat tree.
Currently at the alternating between ferocious play fighting and mutual ear-washing stage ...

I bought a cat igloo - my cats were in it all the time for about two weeks ... then completely abandoned it.

My fleecy radiator hammock was a hit with one cat, he uses it nearly every day even when the heating isn't on - mind you, I had to try it on 3 different radiators before I found one he liked! The other cat's never touched it.

Ah. I think they do like heights. This is Siberian #1 pretending he’s in a snow covered pine forest (with central heating of course).

He’s never been great with toys either. Gets very excited for about an hour and then twigs they aren’t actually alive and goes off to chase rats by the compost heaps.
