Cat Litter to clump or not to clump

Had to start using a litter tray again, well, not me, cat! Been a few years since he's had one. I notice a lot of the bags say non clumping. Surely clumping is best? I've had a couple of bags of non clumping because wasn't handy to get clumping type. I'm about to open a bag of clumping and sadly looking forward to it. Do you find you waste so much more gravel with the non clumping? Why do people prefer non clumping? And those wood chips are even worse, well, from what I can remember anyway,

I always recommend Professional Classic ultra clumping from Zooplus.

Lasts my six cats for months, no smell and daily scooping keeps the tray clean, comes in baby powder scent or odour neutralising. I buy two sacks at a time to last longer between orders; the only downside is that it is heavy.

I use Cats Best original mixed with Cats Best Smart Pellets.

Lasts ages and doesn't smell. I get a bit of tracking but it's a lot less since I started mixing in the smart pellets

Started to use sainsburys ultra clumping litter (£4.20 for 5L), was using intersand classic previously but its more convenient being able to pop into a store and buy it instead of having to order online and wait for delivery

I've also noticed the bin now has a pleasant fragrance when opened, whereas before it was just awful. It says it's 100% clay but it must be treated some how.

We've used Sainsbury's standard clumping litter for years now. Cats like it, it's easy to remove anything they have done, and it keeps the smell down.

Watching with interest. Started Scaredy Cats on Pets at Home extra super fab clumping or whatever it was and it was vile, brown concretey stuff. Changed them to the antibac one that was mentioned above and it's fine. Seems to last ok. But would prefer not to have to drag my arse to PAH so Sainsbury's would be much handier.

Cleaned out the litter tray and put in the Sainsbury's ultra clumping cat litter as I'd already got it in. Very impressed! Cat wasn't to start with as new smell/texture but ok now. The fine gravel has a pleasant but not overpowering or lingering fragrance, it also pretty much contains the bad odour. Oh and no dust, another bonus. Sainsbury's regular white gravel in the blue bag (non clumping) doesn't come close to this, I'd not use that again.

We have Felipure for Harry and he loves it - he rarely uses the garden now and actually comes in to use the tray! It's a clumping litter and we've found it doesn't stick to the tray providing you put enough in. We just top it up when it starts to get low. Anything removed goes in a biodegradeable doggy bag and into the bin.

Zooplus isn't a minimum spend of £29. That's just to get free delivery I'm as tight as a drum so very rarely do delivery charges.

Zooplus works well if you are buying your cat food and cat litter there in bulk so you always get free delivery.

How do people with wood cat litter make it last more than a day? Once it’s wet it’s sawdust.

Cats Best do 2 different types of clumping litter:
Oko Plus - tracks everywhere so only tried it once
Smart Pellets - larger pellets that track less

I find Greenwood’s goes right into my chest. Am I the only one with this issue? It’s like I’ve got an allergy to litter.

We use wood pellets, empty daily and chuck on compost.

Greenwood’s from zooplus is a flushable one. It does track a bit but I find the increase in hoovering required worth it for the convenience of being able to flush poo/clumps. I bulk order as big bags are usually on offer and order food too.

Cats best for me. TBH I rarely do a full change because it's deep enough it doesn't stick to anything. I just scoop and top up as needed, his tray is actually a large under bed storage box (low sides, big and cheap!)

Mine (my cat's) is crushed up walnut kernals - it clumps it's biodegradeable (how it goes in a plastic bag?)
It doesn't track very far and tbh the smell is barely there - we have a kitchen bin next to the litter tray and empty that about every 5-7 days (more often in the summer)

I get clumping litter from zooplus. Yes to bulk buying! For some reason I would never remember to pick up more litter like I would milk or bread so I kept making extra trips just for litter and found it annoying! Definitely bulk buy if you have the space. I get food from there too.

We swore by Sainsbury's clumping with previous cats, but when we got new kittens we were told not to use clumping in case they ate it?!?

Now using paper pellets from Pets at Home (can't remember the brand and too lazy to go upstairs and check). In fairness, it works pretty well - probably a better alternative than the non-clumping gravel.

Still wish they'd go outside though, but apparently no interest...
