Do cats fart?

Because there is a bloody horrible smell (I have very little sense of smell but I can smell it) and DS2 denies farting. BastardCat came back from the cattery yesterday - is he taking his revenge?

Just a bit...Mr C likes to settle on the pillow at night, give a purry sigh, and snuggle down adorably. While secretly letting one out. Within seconds your eyes are burning, you're choking helplessly and you're terrified he's about to die because no one can smell that bad and live till the morning.

2 min later you're fine, your brain has blocked out the worst, you can wipe the tears away and turn out the light. He's pretending not to notice.

My mums cat used to fart like a skunk. Her tail used to vibrate and shake, and that's when you needed to run...

Mines once farted & jumped up in the air as he wondered what the noise behind him was.

This made me chuckle as my DH sent me this text last night

Cat has just sloped off leaving a fug of meaty flatulence..

Yes, girlcat does absolutely awful silent but deadlies. We have to leave the room.

He seems to have stopped - I presume it was whatever he ate at the cattery. That or revenge for abandoning him.

He has been known to sneak under the duvet at night - if he tries to Dutch oven me I will know it is deliberate...

Grain free is the way forward. Definitely.

Yep. Grain free sorted our gag inducing cat's arse out though. Touch wood...

You haven't smelled a cat fart until you've smelled a ZombieCat fart.

DozyFruCat doesn't fart, but MadFruCat does occasionally (although he hasn't done it recently) but, and fortunately for me, MadFruCat reserves his more spectacular farts for DP Grin

christ yes, disgustingly so.

Pencat gives off a sort of 'prftttt' noise along with an awful smell then she blames anyone but herself.

Mine must have known that I was reading this thread as a cloud of pussguff just floated up into my face. Charming creature.

Mine just likes to burp right in my face Hmm

Mine don't. I find it deeply suspicious.

Archcat only really farted badly when he ate grain-filled food. Once we went grain free the smell largely stopped. Largely. He still manages to let rip in the foulest manner on occasion.

My cat farted his way through kittenhood. He only did it when we were playing and he got really overexcited, like when I was chasing him round the room. DP thought I was making it up for ages as he wasn't as good as playing with him! I don't think he farts anymore though.

Do they? Holy crap yes! I have a stealth farter. She stops, drops and leaves. DH often gets the blame.

Report
OTheHugeManatee · 04/04/2016 21:05

They certainly do.

Cat farts are noxious.

Kitten farts are banned under the Geneva Convention.

One of my cats farted in my face, it was wet and loud and I don't think I can ever forgive him

Hopelass · 04/04/2016 21:01

Two types of farts in my experience: revenge farts (they are dispatched post cattery or vets visit) or defence farts (dispatched when cat is picked up when it doesn't want to be).

Omg defence farts. Thought it was just mine.
Another thing the fuckers did (I lock them out of the room now). If we were eating something that smelled especially nice and no one would give them. Fuckers would walk in the room and let off stink bombs. Knowing the smell would drive us
Out and put us mere humans off our food. Then the scavenger little bastards would pick it out of the bin and smirk at us.

Their not even old. Only 5 months.

Current elderly cat likes to come and sit right under your nose before she does it, disgusting animal. Her mother didn't like to do it too near, thankfully, her tactic was to do it while moving rapidly away so you got the smell and she didn't. In both cases they were/are noxious enough to strip paint.

Mine certainly do! Silent but deadly.
