Cat is stuck 70ft up tree. Any idea how to get him down?

My cat has been missing all day. We eventually found him about 50ft up a tree in the woods nearby. He wouldn't move and we couldn't reach him so the fire service came out (we live on a military base so it's the local military fire service rather than civilian who don't respond re cats I don't think). They got up to him and he then went another 20ft up. They've had to leave with their ladder as they can't do anything. Any ideas how to get him down? He won't budge and has been up there for about 10 hours now.

That tree surgeon, what a hero! Glad kitty is safe at home. Not a good day to be stuck up a tree today...

He can stay in until tomorrow I've decided. I can't face it until then . He's back to his normal bouncy self anyway, he got himself shut in the bathroom at 4am, shrieked to be let out (this is a common occurrence as he is obsessed with the sink and pushes the door open if we haven't pulled it shut properly but it closes behind him) and then managed to get himself shut in there again at 4.30am as I obviously hadn't pulled it closed properly when I let him out the first time! So he is up to his usual antics!

Thanks, I'll let him out before he eats tomorrow in the hope it is a quick trip out!

I don't know whether yours will. Mine, I think, thought that trees are basically boring - nothing up them compared to ground level where there are small things scurrying. But at this time of year? Certainly, they went up a few, got down themselves and then concentrated on ground level fun.

If he's been used to going out, you're going to have to let him sooner or later or he'll become a bit bitter and twisted but it's a big leap for you. Maybe accompany him the first time and have a taste treat or two waiting inside to make it a short one?

Does he seem as if he's got his equanimity back?

thecatneuterer 120ft scares me with dread! I was bad enough with this adventure... Our cat is now sitting chirping on the window sill desperate to be let out but I can't bring myself to let him out again just yet for fear of another tree incident...

Do they learn not to go near them?

What a nice man! Our tree surgeon doesn't charge either. Last year he got a cat down for us that was I think about 120 ft up! We did have photos on our website, I can't find them now though.

I think sending a present for his cats is a lovely idea.

He's fine thanks toffee, he has drunk piles of water and emptied his food bowl with great glee, followed by a great big sleep all day! He is quite clingy and talkative still but physically, he's fine and making up for lost sleep! The wind outside is awful tonight so I'm very glad he's not up that tree still!

Your DH sounds like a lovely man fluffy. Anyone who will do something like this is lovely I think!

As for a person, they should know better, so I think that makes sense .

That's so kind. Dh would do that kind of thing for an animal, he wouldn't for a person though.

Fluffycloud he didn't charge us anything, he was unbelievably kind. When I phoned he just said "I've got cats, I'll sort you out, don't worry. I'm on a job half an hour up the road, I'm leaving now." and he was at my door half an hour later. He then rescued our cat, refused a cup of tea and said he would be leaving me to look after the cat. I asked about payment/invoicing and he just told me there was no charge, he couldn't have left the cat up there and he hoped other people would help his cats if they were stuck, so he was happy to help.

He was brilliant! I have written him a letter to say thank you and I'm going to send him a present for his cats to go some way of saying thank you.

so glad to find out you got him, the problem with cats going up trees is that their claws go away from their paws so form nice easy hooks to get up the tree, but they wont go backwards as they cant see where they are going and see this as danger behind them, and they cant go upside down to come down the tree as their claws are in the wrong position to hold their wheight which is why some fall off the tree
