The litter tray

Bloody Jelly like substance in Dcat1's wee

CatKitson · 17/12/2012 16:17

He has been in and out of the litter tray all day, so I kept an eye on him. He did steal some cheese off a plate, so I thought he had the runs. I picked him up for a cuddle and found a lump of bloody jelly stuck to his willy area fur. He is neutered. I also found a lump of this bloody jelly in his litter box. I can take him into the vet in the morning, but am worried it cant wait. He is my little shadow, Im so worried about him.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bear Sad

I think the other two cats are missing him now. Toady has been sitting next to me now Bear has gone. Still not "on" me, but next to me, which is new, and has been moving further up the bed at night time. I even got a little bit of kneading from him, which was very much appreciated.

Having to put a brave face on it, so I dont spoil things for the dc over xmas was probably a good thing.

It can be so hard when there's that empty spot in your life. Chin up Cat.

I miss Bear ever so much, we really had a close friendship. I know that sounds crazy, but I know he loved me and I truely loved him. From the moment I first saw him and he cuddled into my arms he was mine.

Oh Cat. At least he went with you holding him - and in love.

Sad

I'd go to a Midnight Service tonight if I were you. And thinking of him.

Bear was found to have cysts in his kidneys as well as the blockage, and apparently they were inoperable, his kidneys were a mess. He was put to sleep with my holding him.

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm sure you don't mind - and you sound more cheerful. I hope the news continues to be good.

Im actually quite hopeful now, and with any luck Bear will continue to get better and come home soon. The vet has been really lovely, and completely understanding when I call up and bother them for updates.

It is a privilege living with my little group of hooligans, and I really don't mind cleaning up after them, Ive just never had such a big mess to clean up, the poor thing was really poorly, but all the stains are out.

Toady just dropped a mouse by my feet and gave me a little brrrrrup, which has cheered me up immensely.

That's good news, CatKitson. And I hope you got some sleep last night as well.

The mess cleaning is one of those things. Happens to most of us at some time - and it's doesn't even figure compared to the love they give us.

Ah, thank you for the nice messages of support. He is actually getting better rather than worse, according to the vet, but not ready to come home yet.

I have been cleaning up the messes, the sofa took quite a lot of cleaning, and he also peed on my laptop, which thankfully was just sprinkled rather than ruined. I didnt want the other cats getting ideas about peeing on top of what he had accidentally done. Poor little Bear, he really couldnt help it. He will need a new bed too, which is a bit sad, he has had it since he was a tiny baby kit. Ive been trying to steal Owl who "owns" dd, and Mr Toad who is ds's shadow, but not really a snuggly cat. I think they miss Bear too.

So sorry to hear that he needed surgery. Cats are pretty tough, I hope he has a speedy recovery.

So sorry to hear that. Keep us updated. He is in the best place & the vet will make him comfortable if he is in pain.

Keep strong for him. He really is in the best place right now.

Here's hoping later in the day will bring better news.

Bear is not at all well, his kidneys are not working properly, and he has had an obstruction removed surgically. Ive got family coming with me on Saturday to talk more to the vet, he isnt well enough to come home right now. Im trying not to cry too much but its so upsetting. My poor little Bear.

He's in the best place now if he's so ill. I'm hoping you've already gone to bed to catch a good few hours sleep now.

Im back. He is safely left at the vet, catheterised and on an IV. We will know more when the bloods are back, but looks like flutd. Poor baby, I had no idea cats hid pain so well. I thought he was looking much better than last night.

Ours has wet food and I never see him drink anything, even out of puddles.

Our water fountain was £30, it's just a low rent water feature in this house.

Surely if they are hungry they will eat though? we know someone who only feeds 2 pouches a day between two cats and leaves biscuits down all day. Their cats just dont seem to eat much.

Good luck at the vets later.

Well that's good news if he's looking better. Best of luck at the vets.

I give all mine Royal canin hair and skin dry, and instinctive wet, with the occasional pouch of felix or sheba.

Im going to try and wean them all onto just a wet diet. When I last tried that they lost too much weight, they just dont eat enough wet. I suppose I can buy urinary care food. Ill have a look for Burns.

I have to go and take him in a little while. He isnt looking too bad, esp after that huge wee on me/the sofa.

There are some dry foods which are ok for them as part of a mixed diet, Burns is one and my boy was fine on it for years, stupidly I changed his food 6 months before his blockage, it was another dry food recommended for cats prone to UTI's but obviously wasn't as good as the Burns.

It probably wasn't the dry food anyway with him having a mixed diet Cat, boys are just prone to UTI's anyway because thier waterworks are so small, just him licking himself could get a few germs until his tube and bring one on, usually they get crystals blocking them when it's caused by the food. My boy was crystal and UTI free when his happened, it was the muscles or something clamping shut which caused it as all his tests were clear.

Your boy is weeing which is really good, mine couldn't wee at all, totally blocked which is why he needed the catheter and unfortunately he wasn't insured so that was a nice £1k vet bill before Christmas. But he's worth every penny, I've had him longer than three of my kids, he'll be 10 next April Smile

No such thing as 'only a cat' on this board, CatKitson.
