My beloved dog sadly passed away

He was the kindest dog I've ever known he never even barked his whole life, he took turns sleeping on my DS or my bed, he passed peacefully through the night while sleeping on my DS bed.

He was 11 years old and I don't know how I'm going to cope without him. His name was Harry and he was so special. Don't know why he died he wasn't unwell at all I saw him at 4 this morning and he was fine but at 8 this morning he was gone.

Sorry to hear about your Ddog too chilledchablis, and give your GSD an extra wee squeeze from me too x

You poor thing - this has me in bits again having had my almost 18 year old collie pts a few weeks ago. It's just devastating, also for my 3 year old GSD who had never been alone before and went into a kind of mourning. You will get through this in time and in stages but it ain't easy. Take care of yourself.

You didn’t let him down. It’s natural to feel like that, it’s part of the grieving. Be kind to yourself. You loved him and he absolutely knew it.

You didn’t let him down OP ❤️ An hour is plenty - he knew how loved he was, how safe and connected.

So sorry for your loss.

I keep thinking about last night I had been tickling his belly for about a hour but my back started hurting (I have a really bad back from a car crash) so I told him no more and he was sad if I had known I would have sat up all night stroking him. Feel so guilty and like I let him down.

Oh, OP, yes - I struggled to sleep for several nights - I kept replaying his last hours over and over again. I don't really have any advice other than to keep in mind that this is a huge trauma and accept that you will be mentally and physically affected, and to be as kind to yourself as you can. Flowers

I guess I'm very shocked dk how I'm going to sleep without him laying on my feet tonight. Kids are grieving in their own unique ways.

I am so sorry Theodoreb. Harry looks like he was a fantastic dog and one of the bestest of boys. As others have said he passed peacefully and close to those he loved; an excellent way to go. I hope my 3 elderly boys pass in the same way.

Thinking of you and all who have lost their precious dogs recently.

I took ages to post because someone came to the door.

Sorry too to others who've gone through this recently as well. Our much-loved wee pets just wrap themselves around our hearts.

Aww that is so sad. Like honeyroar, I've also lost 2 of my precious dogs in the past 2 years, and it's just awful.

Your gorgeous Harry died safe, warm, and cuddling into someone he loved.

Bless you OP, and your DS too. X

I'm so sorry. Losing a dog is heartbreaking. We lost ours suddenly too. He was fine one minute then suddenly collapsed. He came to but we rushed straight to the vet anyway. As we got him in he collapsed again. Never came around. It was a tumour on his heart. He was only nine. We were all devastated and it took weeks to not cry every time I found fluff from his coat or a toy under the sofa. Hopefully you can take comfort from knowing your dog had a loving and happy life.

I'm so sorry @Theodoreb and @caramac04 for your losses.

But what a wonderful way for Harry to go, so close to people he loved, safe and warm.

And caramac, you will in time be so proud that when it mattered you put your dog's needs before your own wants. The best and last gift we can give.
