I'm hopefully going to bringing home a new pup in about 8 weeks.

Been googling about socialisation.

I was wondering to what lengths you guys went to to socialise your pup?

Thanks.

Mine is 13 weeks old so we are right in the middle of this now. At first he was in the conservatory with me almost all the time. Just getting to go in the living room was a big step. so over the first week he went in the car for short journeys daily, got to explore the wider house (under supervision) got used to the garden and got carried into school to meet daughter's friends. We then took him to my parents and the vets and more car and more school over the second week. He got to explore my parents house and meet my sister and her kids and the postman, the binmen, the bin lorry etc.
3rd week we took him to the beach at the weekend, more car, the pet shop, a cafe that is dog friendly and to visit our caravan in it's storage place.
He is now vaccinated so attend a dog training class for the first time last week and we went away in the caravan this weekend. We went to a country park and ate in the cafe. I encourage people to take to him and meeting dogs at dog training classes is great for him. If it stops raining today I am going to take him to the woods.
He has 15 minutes walk time per day but often our walks take twice as long as he does lots of sitting and looking or standing and sniffing. I am careful about how far we walk but like him to have time to take in his surroundings.
To get him used to the collar he wore it in the house all day from about 10 weeks old. The lead took 4 days of my taking him out on it 5 times per day. I'd carry him to the pavement and put him down and he'd look at me as if I was mad. I could coax him to walk a few steps with some treats and then he'd sit again. Gradually we made it past of our front garden, then to 3 doors down, then to the end of the road etc.. He is still a bit all over the place on a lead but he now knows what he is supposed to be doing - exploring.
I let him off for the first time in a field last week for a few minutes to practice getting him to come back. I was terrified but he came back to me no problem. We are also practicing recall in dog training.
All that time in the car means he travels like a dream and whilst he is still a little shy he is mostly happy to greet people and other dogs. Noises don't seem to bother him.
