Our gorgeous, doted upon ten-year-old Labrador had to be let go yesterday.

And even though we know we did the kindest thing for her, our hearts are breaking in two.

She had diabetes, her eyesight had gone and her bladder was failing. She was deeply unhappy and had stopped eating. It was time for her to go, but we miss her so so much already.

There only Me, dh and the two teens at home and our girl was ruined by all of us. The kids kissed her goodbye every morning and told her they loved her, she loved them back - a touch of her paw on their knee when watching TV or a lick of their fingers as she lay across their knees (even if she was the size of a Shetland pony)

We buried her in the garden. I can see her resting place from here. It's all so raw just now but I want something special to mark her place. She was our first family pet and has grown up with ds who is inconsolable.

Hold your dogs closer and walk them that little bit further - I hope our girl is sprinting through fields and rolling in sheep poo til her heart is content 💕🌈

Dreading the day when I say goodbye to my gorgeous girl (who’s currently wrapped in a blanket, lying on the sofa beside the fire). So sorry for your loss. I lost my horse last year and cried so much I thought I would need to go to the GP at one point because I couldn’t stop.. it’s so heart wrenching but my goodness what a great life she obviously had. You have to remember that. Think of her at rainbow bridge, waiting for you in the sunshine but having fun running round in the green fields and rolling to her hearts content in loads of poo! Wink

She was kind, she was gently, she was soft and she was so genuine.

If we were upset she laid her head on our knees, if we had a family cuddle or if dh and I had a dance in the kitchen, she would stand on her hind legs and join in.

We will miss her 💕

What a gorgeous girl. So sorry for you all. Well done though - it's a terrible decision to have to make. Flowers

She's beautiful.
So sorry for your loss.
I have been through this 3 times and it doesn't get any easier.
Just know that you did the right thing by her. Better a day too early than a day too late

This is her before her diagnosis. She always had such a shiny coat, despite het fondness for rolling in muck.

Thank you for the lovely comments. I have ordered her a granite memorial plaque which should be here by the end of the week.

Goodbye our beautiful girl 💕

Oh no, I’m so sorry. Your love for her shines through your post.

I’m going to be less resentful about walking my sweetheart tomorrow. (I’m usually not at all, but I’ve got a bad ankle and she refuses to walk with anyone but me!)

RIP, your beautiful girl. 💔
