Need suggestions for dog bed for 28 kg 2 year lab who likes to s t r e t c h out and sleep. Want to reclaim the sofa. Have looked at Orvis beds - the prices make my eyes water! Are they worth it or have you any other recommendations dog people?
He is not a chewer btw (any more). Thanks for reading.

Ahh he looks very comfy :)

They look great - I want one!
DDog has 2 (much cheaper) memory foam beds but I always find him lying on the carpet when I come down in the morning so it wouldn't be worth it.

Oh, and I can update too - I bought an XL wipeclean Tuffies dog nest which looks great, and the dogs love resting their heads on the side, but the cushion inside is quite a lot firmer than I'd expected compared with the sofa so it's proving quite hard to persuade them off the soft furnishings, and into their own incredibly expensive dog bed. Hmm.

It might be worth mentioning for people with small dogs/cats that some of the "egg" shaped thick plastic domed beds are air-tight if they are flipped over so that the entrance is flat against the floor.

That looks great ! May consider that for GirlDog. She's just spent 2 days in hospital after consuming her fatboy dog bed she was farting bean bag beads for days so could do with a new one, once my bank account has recovered from the vet fees associated with eating the last one!!

Just a quick update, went for an Orvis bed in the end as they have such great after sales service and were very helpful re sizing etc. Dog seems to like it but looks a bit bemused as to where the crate has gone!

Orvis bed, if money was no object and we didn't already have one, an Orvis bed definitely.

If money was no object what bed would you buy for a big greyhound?

Not got a bolster edge, but my dog loves this. The cover is washable.

Once my lab has made a dog shaped dent in it, he can rest his head quite happily.

You can wash the Orvis bed covers (they wash really well, my boy threw up pure fluorescent yellow bile on his and there was no trace of it when it came out the machine) ours has a memory foam mattress and a separate 'sausage' cushion that makes up the back and sides, the mattress has a water resistant cover that's wipeable but the sausage doesn't so I guess if you got a bed like ours then the sausage could get whiffy.

My lab loves to rest his head too. I bought him this bed from Zooplus. Hygienic dog bed it's called, this is large (100x80cm). He can stretch right out in it when the standard poodle isn't in it with him

I don't have an Orvis to compare it too but I have a Tuffies in the car boot and it does not smell at all even after several months of use by two dirty dogs. It has a fleece cover on that is easy to wash.

Which of those two options - Orvis or Tuffies - is least smelly? I've got two sofa-hogging 30kg hounds, and although i've restricted them to a sofa with washable throws, there is a definite doggy whiff about it. Can you wash the Orvis beds, or is that wipeclean no-smell-can-linger-here Tuffies fabric the way to go?

My dog is lucky enough to have an Orvis bed, my MIL was clearing out a deceased lady's house and there was a big Orvis bed so I gave a donation and it's now in our front room. My dog loves it. He had a folded duvet before and used to dig at it a lot, he hasn't dug this bed at all. It is incredibly comfy, my 3yo daughter is always sneaking into it whenever the dog leaves the room! I looked it up on the website, this bed cost almost £300!! The cover easily comes off to wash and the mattress has a water resistant cover too.

It must be a Border Collie thing, my first one was the same, she made a brilliant draught excluder.

Came on to make suggestions but, given enough cash Orvis and Tuffies would be my choice.

NCIS Oldgirl was exactly the same. She was half BC, half Belgian Terv and preferred to lie on the quarry tiles than in/on a bed. Mind you, her real preference was to lie in the middle of the lawn, come rain, sleet or snow. She actually lay out there and almost disappeared under the snow as it fell on several occasions, but no amount of persuasion could get her to come inside the nice warm, comfy house. Hmm Grin

I would love to get some of these beds but they would be a waste of money. Ddog has a very comfy bed but elects to sleep under the kitchen or dining tables on the hard cold floor. Weird beast.

Functional really, want something with a bolster/pillow edge so he can rest his head. Sort of horseshoe shape. I will look at Tuffies thanks
