To cut a long story short we may be getting her She's 15 weeks old, had to be removed from the home as she "bit" the baby and SS gave the couple the ultimatum of the baby or the dog. We met her yesterday and, as far as I could see, she's just puppy bitey rather than nasty bitey IYSWIM? She is currently with a foster family in the village.
So what could go wrong?! We are experienced owners (had rotties in the past so not hugely different in terms of character) currently have two working cocker boys and a beast of a cat :o Also 10yo DS who is supremely indifferent to the dogs and is experienced enough to tell a puppy "no" and not run about shrieking and flapping his hands in the air.
Pup is apparently vaccinated, not speyed (obviously, this would be done ASAP as the boys are still entire) We are waiting to hear today if somebody else is interested (foster carer didn't seem hopeful) and if not we have asked for a 48 hour trial in order to make a fair and unbiased decision.
Can't work out whether to be nervous or excited yet :)

This pup is definitely going nowhere :)
Her and DS are inseparable and he is even going to be the one that takes her to classes To my eternal shame I have had to buy a cheap duvet to put over the sofa as that's where they spend most of their time (no dogs on the furniture in this house Hmm)
effing she's called Mattie, Matilda when badly behaved :o

We have two staffie britches. Get along great together but both dislike other dogs after the little one was attacked by three jack russels. We always keep them on leads now

brainfidget it isn't only the ownership that is the issue Hmm. Some dogs don't like other dogs. Staffies are known to be a breed that are more prone to this. Our Staffy is absolutely adoring of all people he meets. He doesn't like any dog he meets (manifested by shying away for the most part, but will snap if he's harrassed and actively dislikes our old westie).

I personally think he would be a completely different dog if he had been summer born. He was born in a cold winter and is of a nervous disposition. Rain, snow, leaves, dark evenings and mornings, etc., were all too much for him.

He's still my boy though Smile and I adore him.

Another gratuitous puppy shot :)
Currently we are sat in the pub as "socialisation" and she is looking angelic and behaving beautifully while attracting lots of attention. DH and DS are also smitten :)

Great thread. We have 3 staffy / bull breed crosses, all rescues. They all had sad back stories, but are happy, well-adjusted and sociable dogs now. The only time they don't like other dogs is when another dog tries to start a fight. I'd say this has happened about 4 or 5 times in 10 years, so it's a rare occurrence, and I have to say that it's normally Akitas and Huskys that can be a bit funny.

Our staffy x's are 2 males and 1 female, all neutered, and all get along well together and with other dogs, to the extent that most other dogs can enter our house as a first time meet, and eat and drink with ours on our dogs territory, and our dogs do not mind. It's such a shame about all the negative mythology about staffies - they are simply as good as their owners.

Well done giving this lucky girl a nice new home. If only more people would, then more would make it into rescue rather than being put down. You will be staffy converts before you know it, and no other breed will seem quite as cute by comparison any more.

The photo shows her wrapped in DS's camp blanket which he's had since Beavers and was is a prized possession. I have spent all morning being told how clever she is because she's "licked my ear" or "wagged her tail" :o

Awwwww this is a lovely thread!

Beautiful dog, pleased you kept her.

Neither of the staffies I've had have liked other dogs much, current one just keeps away from them. She loves the cat though, they're best buddies.

I think it's largely down to the dog's own personality and how well they are socialised.

Congratulations!

What the hell is wrong with this phone today Hmm
Yes, as I was saying, posh pouches of cat meat and occupies most of his time sneering at her through the banisters (coupled with the occasional surprise attack) Now she's trundling about with the boys though so it's harder for him to actually get her on her own and he's been evicted from the room whenever he tries it so hopefully he'll take the hint :o
Will try for a photo later as I am between broadband suppliers so relying on a terrible 3G signal unless I go to the pub :o
