Please tell me I'm doing the right thing. We had hoped to have puppies (golden retriever) but I work full time and wouldn't have time to look after her/them. She is a lovely dog, and I don't want her to change.

You are doing the right thing! Grin many years ago I bred my bitch, she needed an emergency c section and we lost a pup having hand reared it for six weeks. She then, late one evening developed pyrometria (sp) resulting in emergency spey! surgery definately didnt change her she didnt get fat for example. All my other bitches have been speyed and they didnt change either. In my defence I bred my first bitch 20 years ago, before I realised how many dogs are sitting in pounds or pts there are too many puppies out there, just take a look at some sites where people are looking for stud dogs for breeds which are in pounds in huge numbers. You are doing the right thing. HTH
