Spoke to another dog walker the other day and she said that bitches tend to do it to disguise their scent - mine is always rolling in fox poo - no other poo , just fox poo .

I bet your dog is a male ! Grin

It's not a proper dog walk if they dont come back with their necks covered in fox shit! And cow pat on their back!

Have also heard the scent theory, I know males that do it too.

My pointy rolls in everything. Including dead animals, from badgers to birds and worms!

My dog loves fox poo, he is a very submissive male.

Fox poo! A daily delight. Any tips on how to discourage the rolling? I try to catch her at it and tell her off - but am pretty sure she's thinking it's Chanel No.5.

Never met a dog owner yet that successfully managed to 'train' their dog out of rolling in crap. My bitch is a worse offender than my male in terms of frequency but when he does it he properly goes for broke and makes sure he comes back covered. I think he knows it will result in a bath and applies the 'might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb' principle.

And I can confidently declare that decomposing hedgehog smells way worse than anything on earth fox poo.

Tomato ketchup is your friend. Apply to affected area, leave dog bansihed to garden for 20 minutes or so and then shampoo.
