Only two episodes in but this seems like a pretty decent Netflix show if anyone's looking for one.

Brilliant! And so good to have a series that actually makes some sense and doesn’t have a crappy disappointing ending!

It was great, wasn’t it?

There was a point where DH and I were avidly debating whether JD was fundamentally decent. It was when he was taking things slowly with Cora and also gently pointing out how her relationship with Phoebe was holding her back. He also has a nice home, lovely wife and baby in the hear and now. The broken narrative structure and to & fro made you repeatedly re-evaluate each character. There was a lot of nuance, which always makes for more compelling storytelling.

Have just finished it. I enjoyed it but got frustrated with some bits being a bit predictable and cliched.

Also, was anyone else confused about the Mum telling the police that Phoebe died a month after Cora ran away? Was that not just completely odd that she didn’t report phoebe missing when Cora turned up at the rehab clinic two months later? She didn’t seem the sort of Mum who would have just left that unanswered. Phoebe was incredibly ill and she had devoted her entire life to looking after her and praying for her to get better. Phoebe was her life. No way would she have let Cora get away with taking her away and losing her.

Well thanks to you lot instead of doing even the smallest amount of work, I have just watched the whole series over the last two days. Gripping stuff! Fantastic acting too and Jessica Beil just looked absolutely stunning, a total natural beauty.

She doesn’t seem to have aged in 15 years! How is that possible?

Though I enjoyed it i thought it lost its way in last 2 episodes I had to google some things to understand what I'd missed (don't want to spoil it for others)

I enjoyed this but thought it got a bit silly and didn't really make much sense towards the end partly to do with what Battered mentioned above. It was enjoyable though and had me gripped.

I agree, it did get a bit silly, and, I thought, cliched, but overall I enjoyed it. Phoebe was indeed a vampire, on that JD and I agreed.

Fantastic drama, I really enjoyed it!
Battered I think the mum at first thougt they had run away together (if I remember rightly she says something to that avail when she goes to visit Cora in prison) and I guess she assumes Phoebe has died when Cora turns back up an addict. It's nade clear in the show that Phoebe's health has taken a turn for the worse when she is hospitalised and ther T-cells are elevated again. This is when Cora is already Dating JD, so must be just prior to her birthday celebrations I guess? Also, the mum obviously thinks that any "selfish" behaviour is punished by god, so it made sense to me that she was sure Phoebe had died.

Can anybody enlighten me though please, as to how the Detective track down Maddie? When he finds her he says something like "There were only two babies born with the name of Winter last year and one of them.was in Ohio" or something like that. Bot how did he know she had a baby and called it Winter? It's driving me mad!

Thanks just that does make sense.

Wrt your question. When Cora was having the flashbacks she remembered Maddie telling her whilst in the bathroom about JD’s previous girlfriend who got pregnant and then threw herself infront of a car. She said she had planned to call the baby winter. It turned out that it was actually maddie who that had happened to. When the detective was in the medical centre there was a mural on the wall that said something about getting some winter sun and it jogged his memory about maddie. It was a bit of a leap really because there would be no guarantee she would have had a baby in the 5 years she had been missing. It was one of the bits I found frustrating. It was a bit too lazy for my liking but they needed to tie up the story somehow.

Battered thank you! I remember the scene but I must have missed the bit where she said she would have named the baby Winter, so the Detective's sudden inspiration when he sees the word printed on the wall made no sense to me at all. I can stop trying to google it now!
Yes I agree, writing was a bit lazy in parts! I can forgive the creators though, as I enjoyed it so much Grin

Yes, if the close relationship had continued there is no way Cora would have achieved the normality she found with her husband and son. However, its got to be said, Cora’s MIL was MN-threadworthy. OTOH, her husband demonstrated his loyalties were well-placed and I ended up liking him, despite my reservations at the outset.

Biscuit - as OP, I think we now need a spoiler warning in the title. Will you report you OP to MNHQ, or do you want one of us to do it?
