Bbc2, 9pm. Anyone else going to watch?

I’m fascinated by Scientology, currently watching the new Leah Rimini series on it. Looking forward to this.

Have you seen Marty has gone back into Scientology?

Scientology Going Clear is on now on sky Atlantic, started at 9.00 but will be on plus one at ten, if anyone wants to watch it.

I started watching Leah Rimini series, its very good.

Has anyone watched "Scientology Going Clear", it's fascinating, it tells a lot more on what goes on, it shows how Marty and his wife were intimidated after he left, it says a lot more about Cruise and Travolta, its well worth a watch, the guy who pops up in Louis documentary is also on it and another actor who's name I can't remember.

Oooo I'm going to look for this.

I do like the way Louis does his documentaries. He's a very cool and collected customer is Louis - it must be fascinating looking into all these issues.

This one was good but I didn't learn all that much Scientology (I know a bit anyway) it did show the more sinister angle.

I've enjoyed all of this series, I found the one on Trafficking sex interesting (and a bit depressing).

Small work @CMOTDibbler - I wonder if we know each other in RL? Bloody awful organisation though. So many people embroiled in it there!

We used to live there too Gingergenius. It was amazing all the industry around it - the vitamins you had to take that the only right ones were of course made by Scientologists etc. But the people I felt sorry for were the ones who couldn't buy their way up the levels and so would work for free for years to get it. Always seemed like slavery tbh

@purpleme12 it’s renowned as a money-making machine. It’s all about the profit!

Thank you Curls, I'll look out for them.

I just don't understand though. To me it just seems like a money making thing.

Also with these allegations surely there just be some truth to it all with so many people saying things like this? Then haven't the police got involved?
And can't the police get involved for that squirrelling thing cos it's mine harassment?

@Papayamum no east Grinstead! In Sussex. Hi there where tracilta and cruise used to regularly fly in for their gala evenings etc!

I thought this was fantastic and Louis handled them very well. The squirrelling thing was so intimidating. I can see how ex scientologists live in fear of these tactics.

I only know one Scientologist, the bloke who runs my corner shop. It doesn't seem to be doing much for him though, he's a proper miserable bugger Grin

Yep the late and not so great L Ron Hubbard. He set up his cult as a ‘religion’ for tax purposes. Based on his principles of Dianetics.

They believe that:

Man is an immortal spiritual being. Trapped in a human body.

His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime.

His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realised.

They believe we are descended from something called thetans and their goal is to ascend ‘the bridge’ to becoming all powerful (think psychic abilities, telekinesis etc) and you have to pass ‘levels’ (all of which cost extortionate amounts of money) to achieve these dizzying heights of magnificence! They also believe they can heal by touch alone etc. Utterly batshit!!!

What do they actually believe? I enjoyed the program, but still really didn't understand that at the end!

Really interesting, but I still haven't got a clue what Scientology is supposed to be aboutGrin.

Louis is so understated and cool but, boy! those people he interviews really open up to him, don't they?

Its a brilliant documentary, I like Louis in most of his documentaries, his one on Alzheimer's is very good, heartbreaking but done so well.

Watching it now! I love Louis! He's brilliant. I loved the I'll film you back on my mobile. Scientology is basically intimidation and control. I have to say it's a very weird but fascinating cult. It's not a religion imo it's a cult.

I don't understand how so many are so hooked by it all. It's madness!

I love Louis too, he was awesome in this. He didn't seem bothered at all at being filmed all the time (either that or he's a damn good actor)
Also agree about Marty's historical behaviour showing through at times, but I did feel really sorry for him. You can imagine how stressful that whole squirrelling thing would be (no idea why it was called that)
The whole series has been amazing actually, he's one of the most interesting journalists of our time imo (and really brave to go into some of those situations)
