Twin Peaks (inspired by The Returned)

The Returned reminds me of the odd and scary Twin Peaks.

Everyone sneakily watched and talked about it at school, it was pre on-demand days so required cunning!

Killer Bob was terrifying, stopping me from watching it again!

Kyle mclachlan was great in it, he's aged (unlike viewers, of course)

Diane- I loved it. I remember watching the repeat of the first episode when Steve Wright in the afternoon said how good it was. I watched it in my parent's room where I was sleeping because my Grandma was staying in my room. I was hooked from then on. If she wasn't staying I don't think I would have had chance to watch it. A couple of us at school were obsessed and used to pretend we were the different characters. The weirdness was great. I watched it all the way through but it was frustrating at the end.

I loved Twin Peaks too - I did have box set of video's.
It was very strange and suited my teenage life perfectly.

Who said "new shoes" ? Was it the guy in the wheelchair. I loved the cheerleader too.

At one point I was such a Twin Peaks Freak, it would of been my specialised subject on Mastermind Grin

Wasn't there a circle of silver birch trees towards the end? I ain't googling it in case an image of Bob comes up too, 22yrs on and I'm still scared Shock.

I still get the willies when I see a cluster of silver birch.

I agree. There isn't the outright weirdness in The Returned that you get in Twin Peaks. 'Twisted' is a good word for it. Plus, pretty much every one of the characters in Twin Peaks could have had a feature-length film made about them.

Yes, spondulix, it's atmospheric, but The Returned is much more conventional drama, less.....twisted.

Am scared to watch alone, and DH just wouldn't get it. But might have to be done in the interests of nostalgia, maybe it's less scary with (legal) Wine

It's on Netflix (where I am, anyway) if anyone wants to watch.

Would I like The Returned then, if I liked TP?

Love, love, love Twin Peaks. Just finished watching it again and the final scene shocked me all over again.

So many loose ends weren't tied up - the explosion in the bank! Hank and his wacky wife. Leo in the log cabin with a box of spiders. Third series please Mr Lynch!

One of the funniest and downright weirdest things ever to show on TV.

I still think Maddie's death scene is pretty much the most shocking thing I've seen on a tv series.

It didn't require cunning to watch it if you were old enough to have already left school Wink.

I'm trying to remember who else was in it, the Log Lady, the weird dancing dwarf.

I'm glad I watched it back in the day, I'm too scared to watch anything creepy these days. You probably couldn't get much better than TP.

Bluddy loved TP. It scared the bejesus out of me, I guess I was about 14.

Loved Audrey.

I was rather addicted to TP. I have all the books (novels and guides to the programme), the board game, videos, cassettes of music and Laura's diary audiobook too.

For anyone who is interested there is a TP festival held every year with guests from the show, memorabilia to buys etc. looks like great fun but I've not made it yet.

I think Lynch kind of lost control of the 2nd series because of pressure from the network. The ending of it is monumental though.

Here is the bonsai scene - I love Youtube sometimes!:

Amazing series. I'm still angry at David Lynch for not properly finishing it off with a third series or explaining what happened to Agent Cooper...

I was about 15 when it was first shown - my friends would come round mine every week and we would all watch it in my bedroom. I was obsessed with it! I tried re-watching it about a year ago as DH hadn't seen it and had bought the DVDs. After a few episodes I had to tell him to go on without me - it was sooo slooow I was almost in tears waiting for each episode to end.

Still terrified of Bob - my neighbour looks just like him and really gives me the creeps. He was walking past once and looked in and I said ' oh no, Bob from Twin Peaks is looking at me'. Unfortunately the window was wide open and he heard me. Blush
