It was a bit rubbish having Stefan get a happy ending, but dying a few years ago. He should have been a lovely twinkly man.

Why was the dad running all wet through woods and fields before arriving at CH and rescuing Lauren? Why didn;t he just drive up? Did I miss a bit?

I was REALLY disappointed in episode 3. It was so silly it lost it's creepiness.

A tree came down in the (obligatory) storm (no ghost story can end on a summer's eve with butterflies and home-made lemonade) blocking the road.

Yy to Stefan coming back, summoned by Percy and being all twinkly and reassuring. The connection between Eve/Cam/orphans was all for nothing then? Eve was oddly calm after a year of not believing Cam was dead, then the turmoil in CH, finding out he was dead (but not needing to see for herself?) then the horror of Maurice trying to kill one of her other children.

Percy's mum did turn contrite Vicar away but she didn't seem very contrite herself at the way she treated Nancy.

i think MN should re-film episode 3 Grin

Why would Stefan have been circumcised in the book, I thought he was a German jewish refugee? Agree episode three rather Confused.

So basically there was no point in the family going to that hall - apart from the phychic who 'saw' cam dead in the canal

So we assume cam wandered off - did they/police /sniffer dogs death the area?

Can someone who has read the book please explain what the connection is between Cam and the children at CH? Can he communicate with them because they're all dead? Also what made the ghost go mad? Was he already mad before he died or did killing the children but not getting all of them drive him mad? I don't get it.

I don´t think that there was a connection.

Eve thought she was hearing Cam-hence wanting to stay.

I think the way Stefan´s body on a ledge in the well also led to the finding of Cam´s body?

I think he was pretty close to the edge since being injured in the war!

So what was the connection between Eve and Crickley Hall before Cam went missing? Confused She had the dream about it before anything. And it was such a massive co-incidence that they just happened to rent that place, out of every single house in the UK, that had ghosts that knew where Cam was Hmm.

What did the little boy ghost mean by "I'm not dead mummy" and "I can see the others. THEY are dead"?

Stefan was the only orphan who wasn't dead wasn't he? Although why would he be calling Eve mummy? I wonder if the writers realise how confusing people found it.

Forget MN rewriting E3, I think we should just rewrite the whole lot! Xmas Grin

Someone needs to give a detailed summary of each episode then we can break it down and rewrite it... I think we need a place to do this, so many writers seem to mess up shows (I think there's a few MNers who'd happily rewrite some of Steven Moffat's recent work!)

Dh away and DS is 5. Fucking awful.
Creeped out, don't want to let DS out of my sight

I don´t think the ghosts did know where Cam was.

In the book, Stefan is dead & that´s who Eve hears-but she thinks it´s Cam.

When he describes where he is it coincidentally leads to Cam´s body being found iirc.

diddl that makes more sense. In the adaptation:

  • Cam saw his mum asleep, said goodbye and went off on his own. Fell into the canal and drowned. No psychic contact with anyone.

  • Cribben (or one of the orphans?) told Lily that Cam was dead. How did he know?

  • One of the orphans died after the others so saw them dead and his "Mummy.." message which Eve heard and thought was Cam, was a random psychic echo.

  • Stefan escaped and Maurice went mad. If Cribben never beat him when he was at the orphanage though, why was Maurice so haunted by the cane?

Not sure why I'm bothered by this Grin maybe because it seemed to be a good ghost story, I wanted Cam to be super-psychic boy who saved/released the dead orphans.

Way too many unanswered questions in this, all a bit disappointing really

I would really like to know how come Nancy spoke German?

Report

Not sure about why Nancy speaks German so fluently, I can't remember it being mentioned in the book at all.

Cribben wanted to 'own' the orphans. In the book, he continued to haunt Maurice for the rest of his life. At Crickley hall Maurice was made to beat Cribben with the cane in order to 'purge' him from the evil which he supposed caused his migraines. The book also describes how Magda was haunted by the ghosts of the children, and at the end, her nurse finds her dead, sat upright in her chair with a look of horror on her face, so I took that to mean she was also haunted by Cribben.

In the book Cam's body was discovered in the canal by chance and Gabe was informed of this by the Detective looking after the case.

At the end, as the childrens' and Nancy's spirits are leaving the house, Lili Peel tells Eve that Cam as already Moved On. The children are 'communicating' this to her.

this, and other stuff here made me laugh :) Here we are picking over the details of a ghost story with lots of "how could the ghosts do this, that, whatever" ignoring the fact that ghosts are not actually proven to be real so really they can do whatever we want them to :)

Grin at Soup. Maybe it's the urge to find some rules to psychic phenomena, to balance out our fear of the unknown

Or maybe we just like a story that makes bloody sense Grin

Would it be that unusual for a teacher to speak German? I think a lot of teachers would have known at least a little French, German can't have been that uncommon when Nancy was at school.

Is Nancy's arm explained in the book? There didn't seem much point beyond a vague empathy for Cribben at the start.

The last episode was a disappointment IMO. So many unanswered questions and I wanted more back-story on Nancy, Cribben and Magda.
