The Paradise - Mr Moray is a sexual predator! Miss Audrey is right!

Never been a fan of Miss Audrey but she was giving Denise good advice this week. What is it with Moray and snogging everyone and anyone then looking wistful about his dead wife. Then there is Clara desperate to give him some -'say it with a Geordie accent' "comfort".

Also, how old is Miss Katherine Glendenning? She looks about 35, with a dowry like hers she would have been married off years ago!

Oh I don't want him to marry Denise either miss she's far too good for him.

Ohh So frustrated. I must be the only person in the word that didn't want him running off to his 'Little Champion'

He made a promise to marry the spoilt one, he should have gone through with it and saved the Paradise!

I have been shouting at the TV for the last few weeks, every time she looks longingly at him or he her Grin

No, it just showed her as a nervous looking, expectant, bride, walking down the stairs with her father. Nothing more. Mouret (in the Paradise still) appears to be making a decision about who to go to.

Was Lady G all miserable looking?

You didn't miss very much. Yes, he ran to Denise and they embraced. Lady G was shown dressed in her wedding dress with her father, in, I think, her own house. The details were left to the imagination, though obviously he marries Denise instead.

Can anyone tell me what the very last scene was, I recorded the sshow aand it cut off just as Moray walked downstairs in his morning suit.

Then I think there was a clip where he ran.

Did he run to Denise, did they runn off together, jilting Cathering at the alter?

I read the book at last (The Ladies Paradise) this weekend whilst travelling.

They seem to have taken a few ideas from the book and made a bit of a mess, quite frankly. Mouret never seemed in any danger of marrying (or even proposing to) Catherine (Henriette) or of losing the Paradise to her father, as in the book she wasn't the Baron's daughter, just a wealthy, unrelated, widow. Oh and she was 35, apparently a little older than Mouret, so Elaine Cassidy was exactly the right age to play the part.
Denise was a far more sympathetic character in the book too, she had the charge of her two younger brothers, went through some extreme poverty and hardship, and was sacked very early on (one of her brothers was mistaken for her lover). There was none of the 'little champion' nonsense either, or ideas, Denise was merely a good salesperson and promoted quickly on her return.

Clara ran away (Marguerite was the character with the child), and her uncle's business had failed by the end, his wife and daughter having died.
I don't see how they could get another series out of it? I hope not. I've seen the characters mentioned only briefly in other Zola novels.

I enjoyed the series (have never read the book) but I was hoping that when Denise left she would end up creating an empire with her uncle to rival the paradise

I reckon the second series will start with Moray and Denise married, and us piecing together everything that has happened in between.

Moray is so swoonworthy. I loved his smile as he kissed Denise in the final scene.

He needs to get Jonas to fill Katherine's pockets with pebbles too! Dont forget we also have a very jealous Clara in the background too for next time.

I watched it every week and enjoyed i - I'm a period drama lover too.
What happened at the end - is the wedding off or on? What was in Jonas's black book ?
Hope there is a second series soon.

2rebecca I'd love it if it's full of a Glendenning/Paradise battle- especially if it's only a vengeful nutty Catherine plotting away ( not so much that she turns into Morgana from Merlin though...) and her sensible but wet father indulging her. Somehow I hope it's not happily ever after for Moray and Denise. She is far too good for him.

Mr Claypole - love it!

His voice at times reminded me of Douglas Reynholm from the IT crowd!

i thought this was great. Had to laugh the way everyone called Moray 'Moray' as oppose to his first name even his fiancee - never Mr etc... then we find out his christian name is John - bit of a let down.

he reminded me of Mr Claypole in Rentaghost TBH - showing my age.

I've been loving this, this followed by Cookoo was excellent Tuesday viewing, now they've both finished. I read the book as grew inpatient with the series. It is quite different. Mouret is more sympathetic as he is less of a sexual predator and Miss Glendenning is a concubine much like Violetta in La Traviata which explains her being early middle aged and unmarried. He never gets engaged to her in the book.
Denise is better in the TV adaptation, she was stupid and pious in the book, forever giving money to one brother to spend on married women whilst she and her little brother starved and she refused to put out until married. The double standards v her brother and herself never rang true. Doing away with the brothers and her uncle's miserable family vastly improved the story. There is endless descriptive crap in the book as well, and it's nowhere near as much fun.
I don't know that I can be bothered with series 2 if it's just an evil Glendennings v the Paradise saga. Miss Glendenning turned into too much of a caricature this week, she had some dignity earlier in the series.
