Can I ask any teens if they think this dress is OK for prom?

Love the first one but the second one does nothing for her. Tbh I'm obviously more fussy than I realised as there's not many suggestions on here that I like Blush

Thanks for all your suggestions. I asked her if she was still excited about the dress + she said yes she loves it. She's also shown it to a couple of her GFs and they like it too. Sure they'd tell her if they didnt!

Think I need to take a step back as I'm not her Mum + as a mother of 3 boys, what do I know! I'd rather a clingy sleek number but that's my opinion, not hers (or her own Mums). If she does have second thoughts, we can go again.

I think she should wear whatever dress she prefers. You will find a whole variety at prom... Some like simple styles, some really sparkling and bling, I can agree that this ball gown type was more popular years ago but it is coming back. I have sold lots of gowns to prom for this year already. If she loves the dress.. She will not look out of place. I have a prom dress shop in Cleckheaton West Yorkshire //www.afterdarkcleck.co.uk you are more than welcome to come to my shop I have over 800 dresses of all styles to try on xx

My daughter wore this as a bridesmaids dress and now my niece is using for her prom. It's very classic and elegant without looking dated

The first one is beautiful!
I love it

Second one 🤢

The first one looks like a Disney princess and second one isn't nice.

She's gorgeous so keep looking.

OP I'm afraid I don't like either. Both styles are outdated and the colours are not very on trend. She could wear something much more fitted.

I love the first one and agree she should pick something she loves. Not just pick a style which she thinks others will have/is on trend.

This is dds prom dress, so she went for something a bit different.

The blue one is beautiful!! I agree with pp that the style now is more towards clingy/lace effect.
However, I wanted a dress like the blue and I was talked out of it by my friends, still regret it 4 years on!!

Really tell your DD to pick the dress SHE loves, not what she thinks everyone will like!!! Smile

Is that actually your DD in the first picture?

I assumed it was a photo from a website, but then I saw your second picture.

If I was her I’d go in a bikini 🤣

She can wear a bin bag and she’ll look stunning. Lucky girl.

Step away from the prom dress shop!

Those flouncy, itchy things I see in the background look dreadful on everyone.

She’s a young, beautiful girl with a gorgeous figure, she should be looking at more modern, sleek designs. (They’d be a fuck load cheaper too)

Comefromaway · 24/02/2019 22:07

The style of that second one does nothing for her. She’s got the figure for something a bit more sleek.

The first one is a pretty traditional prom dress. Honestly I think she'd regret the second one...it's very loud (which was my mistake - I looked like Snow White on acid!)

I work at an all girls school and I think if she's true to her usual style, happy and comfortable she won't go far wrong.

We have everything from traditional prom dresses & slinky bejewelled numbers like something from a Bond film, to cocktail dresses and even a tux last year.

I think that 2nd one looks like something Katie Boyle wore to present Eurovision '74.

showerpower · 24/02/2019 22:03

They've all worn clingy sleek dresses at my school for the last few years. Quite a few had crop tops with long skirts last year, lots of bling, no frills.

What sort of frocks will her friends wear? DD's was much more relaxed.

Report
NotOnTheBench · 24/02/2019 21:33

Hm mixed feelings? Maybe she needs to show a couple of friends? This is another style she tried. She actually looks great in yellow but tried this for style.

DD's year had a real mixture which reflected the styles of the individual girls. There were slinky longs, short cocktails, simpler affairs and jumpsuits. Nothing like that though op. I had ball frocks like that in the 80s.

What was lovely was that most of the girls got real bargains and still looked gorgeous. They're 18 how can they not look girgeous.
DD spent about £50 Asos and has been able to wear it again. V low key but she is low key.
