Teenagers

What do your teens have for breakfast before school?

DS age 15 & DD age 13 barely touch breakfast before school, this morning DD managed half a smoothie Confused

They are good eaters, but neither seem to manage breakfast before school. Too rushed? Too early?

Please tell me what your teens eat?

DD has a bowl of cereal and DS toasted bagel or eggs and bacon.

DS (15yr) has scrambled eggs on a muffin, occasionally he will have this with....spinach!!

If she is in the mood, DD (12yr) has baked beans on a muffin but often she doesn't want anything as it's too early.

MIL told me I wasn't a "proper mother" as DC didn't have a cooked breakfast every morning as in her day, she made sure her DC did AngryAngry - she also doesn't agree with me working, apparently I should be at home baking cakes and warming DHs slippers ready for when he comes home

DD 14, doesn't usually have breakfast, sometimes eats a Belvita or similar on the way to school

DTS 13, bowl of cereal

DS1 (15) currently has a couple of crumpets with Nutella, a glass of orange juice and a cup of tea. Also occasionally some yoghurt or a banana. On the 2 days a week he has an 8.15 start at school, he sometimes has a sausage cob at school as they provide breakfast.

DS2 (13) has 2 Weetabix (on which he spreads jam before adding milk!), a yoghurt and a banana plus tea and orange juice.
In the Winter, he has porridge, but he tells me it's not cold enough yet.

They also get a drink and biscuit at school at morning break. DS1 is prone to migraines and I'm sure preventing extreme hunger and thirst helps reduce the frequency of these.

Sorry, dd isn't a teenager, she's only 10, but awkwardness for breakfast has been since toddlerhood.

Ds has either a cereal bar or a glass of milk, or indeed both.

Dd will have cereal but only 6 mini weetabixes, lol. If I sneak in a 7th when she's not looking she leaves it

They both have a multi vitamin too

DD (14)-2 slices of toast with butter or jam or 2 wheatbix and a banana and milk.
DS 15- a bowl of Cheerios or a chocolate cereal pretty much everyday.
DS 17- coffee and a few biscuits nowadays, used to have 3/4 slices of toast but hasn't for almost a year now.

I was in my late 20's before I started having breakfast. I just never wanted it in the morning.

DD was having cereal and two slices of toast. However, this has recently changed to cereal and a banana or orange. She says she needs breakfast and couldn't cope without it. I guess we are all different.

Mine are 11&14. 11 yo still eating cereal or porridge or toast. 14yo DD usually takes Options hot chic in a heatmug and a cereal bar. Refuses lunch but eats brownie and water then raids cupboards at home Hmm

DS has cereal and toast plus a cup of tea (19) always has, he wont even entertain starting a day without breakfast.
DSS nothing (14).
I always stressed how important breakfast was when DS was little and it seems to have stuck!

DS always has leftovers too - curry and rice, spag bol, chili, pasta and sauce. He hates cereal and anything bland.

16yo son has a coffee before he goes out then grabs a bacon butty from the sandwich bar near school every now and then. He doesn't like eating as soon as he gets up and leaves home at 7am.

DD 12 will have anything from boiled egg, bacon and beans or pancakes to just cereal, or brioche and yogurt. If I have offered everything I normally offer with no take up then I settle on cut up raw veg and hummous sometimes with cut up fruit too. Always has a glass of juice.

On occasion she has had beans on toast, egg in a basket (fried bread with a hole cut out and an egg dropped in to cook) but tomorrow I may offer French toast as not had that in aaages and she may fancy the novelty. She will have chocolate cereals on a Friday (rarely) when I'm too tired to argue the non health benefits as I would rather she eat than not.

I only eat a yogurt and drink a glass of juice as can't face a big meal at 6.30 / 7am but as a child I had to eat breakfast as my DM wouldn't hear of us not.

My son 16 has toast with either bacon, ham or cheese. Very rarely will eat cereal for breakfast.

My daughter 12 will have nothing, not even a tea.

Bowl of cereal & drink. TBH I don't want to eat much at 7am either!

Wildly variable - this morning 1/2 a piece of toast (admittedly my home-made bread and it was somewhat on the stodgy side Blush ).

When she's in a breakfast mood various things that go down well are fried tomatoes on toast / soft boiled egg / blackcurrant & banana yoghurt smoothie / spanish style toasted baguette with mushed tomato, garlic, olive oil & salt. (She also likes scrambled eggs on toast but I can't quite face them at 7.15 and I make breakfast so they're not often on the menu Grin )

14y is also a really good eater on the whole, but just not at breakfast time.
At a weekend it is fine as she will eat later on, but before school she just can't/won't. Even then though it wouldn't be cereals or toast, but she does love a bacon or sausage butty given a chance.

She takes a travel mug of coffee (latte) in the car with her and drinks it on her way. I can sometimes encourage her to have a small cereal fruit bar thing, or maybe a small brioche roll. Tomorrow she will have a small sausage sandwich - they had sausages tonight and I always leave a couple spare as know she (or probably DH) will heat them up and put them between bread for her journey to school.

Cereal and milk (especially if it's raw farm milk from the market)
Fresh baguette, butter and jam
Brioche
Fresh orange juice

IME the more tempting the breakfast, the more likely it is to be eaten!

GreatPoint, some people wake up hungry and really need to eat. My dad is like this. Other people feel a little queasy in the morning and can't eat.

My mum is like this. She can now, in her 80s, manage a small piece of Ryvita without butter; when she was younger she couldn't even eat that. It's because she is very much an evening person, and the normal getting-up time in working society was just wrong for her; it made her feel ill.

My dad otoh has always struggled to stay awake during normal adult socialising hours, as he is not an evening person. He doesn't feel hungry at 11 o'clock at night either, because his body is winding down. (My mother otoh will be full of beans at 11 p.m.- and have an appetite). But morning is his time, that is when he feels hungry and energetic and his body is working just right.

I'm lucky enough to be in between: I can stay awake and carry on a conversation at almost any time.

I'd put in a little Tupperware box with some biscuits, a brioche or croissant in and a piece of fruit if they are having to leave very early but I'm a big softy Blush and mine are picked up just after half seven!
The eldest (17) manages cereal but the 15 year old is like a sloth and its a surprise if he ever manages anything so I buy those brioche etc from lidl so he can grab something iykwim
As I said, I'm soft!
