I got a a tattoo on my arm as I had quite bad self harm scars from when I was really poorly: thankfully I don't do it now, but wondering if I've made the right choice. I never used to wear short sleeved tops or go swimming as it was quite obvious what they were. It really was life limiting. Now I'm wondering whether to have tattoo laser removal but I'll be back at square one with hideous scars that will be obvious

I am able to wear short sleeve tops now but I'm getting paranoid as (well on here) people are saying tattoos are common. But I'm not common? Come from a middle class background, and it never crossed my mind that I would be perceived that way. It's quite well done and have had compliments on it. I don't know maybe just having a bit of a wobble

Tattoos are awesome!!

Some people on here are just judgy fuckers with very limited ability to imagine that other people may have different ideas to them.

I wouldn't attempt laser removal tbh. Wear your tattoo with the pride I hope you feel about yourself and your journey.

Why do you care if someone is judging you as "common" for something you seem to be saying has helped you to live your life as you want to. That says more about you than anyone else.

I know I need a bit more self confidence

Thanks @HotGirlInHell

Calling something common is just a way for other people to feel better about their own social standing or choices. To me, it shows insecurity and narrowmindedness.

The important thing is do you like your tattoo? It's ok to have changed your mind or want a different design as a cover up. You dont have to be a static person, you're allowed to develop a d change. Do what's best for you.

You had your tattoo done for you, so it's not anyone else's business. Judgey fuckers can shut the fuck up. 😉

You need to stop caring so much what other people think.
Tattoo or no tattoo living your life worried about how others perceive you is going to lead to real unhappiness. Let it go, it's liberating I promise!

My mum still thinks and says tattoos on women are common - despite me having them!

Honestly, just don’t listen to narrow minded people, who cares what they think it’s your body!

See your tattoo as a badge of honour at how far you've come. You should be proud of overcoming your SH'ing days and your tattoo shows that!

I've got terrible self-harm scars, from cutting and burning my arms as a teen and in my 20s. A lot are covered by tattoos, but some areas are too badly to have beeb tattooed on.

I've never really worried too much about people thinking I'm common, as I probably am! However, I have had a lot of negative comments - as well as compliments - over the years about my tattoo choices.

No words of advice, as our insecurities are our own, but if you love your tattoos, then I hope you feel comfortable enough in time to not worry overly about what others may or may not be thinking.

💚
