My friends hamster turned up an hour ago in one of her humane traps
Looking a bit sorry for itself, its been put in a quiet room , next to the radiator, in a small cage on its own til it gets it's strength back

So glad he's back!

Billy still lost. We heard scratching under the floor upstairs earlier in the week but he's not eaten any strategically placed nibbles. Not holding out much hope Sad Dd3 really upset.

Have mentioned the humane mouse trap to dp. He is going to lower one down under the airing cupboard.

Sorry i forgot to update.
yes we found him alive and a little bit slimmer!
On the Tuesday night, everyone had gone to bed except my dp, dd1 was coughing so he came upstairs to check on her, turned on the light and buddy was sat there at the top of the stairs, let dp pick him up and put him in the cage he went straight to the water bottle.
DS2 now checks tha cage religiously to make sure hes not escaped and can;t escape again.
I really hope you find your lost hamster. Everyone said to put a chocolate button in the trap, it didn;t work for us but others swear by it.

Any luck hotchpotch?

I've just found this after searching for 'lost hamster' threads because Billy has escaped and has been on the loose for up to 10 hours. Our upstairs is a complete tip so it could be weeks before we find (or smell Sad) him. What is a bucket trap? I've just called to everyone upstairs to start a chocolate trap in each room. Any other ideas?

anyone any suggestions? my mum and sister are at my house now searching for him. ds2 is going to be so upset if we still haven;t found him and dread finding him in weeks/months to come because of the smell of him rotting somewhere. Sad

Ds2's hamster escaped on saturday night, we were out, came home around 11p.m and ds noticed that one of the tubes on his cage wasn't connected properly, que tears and frantic searching for him (we have 3 dogs as well), couldn;t find him.
ds set a bucket trap, woke sunday morning to see him run behind the chest of drawers. chest of drawers emptied, pulled out and beds but still can;t find him. que more tears from ds2.
last night we put his cage on the floor with fresh carrot in it and food and water, a bucket trap, but still no sign of buddy.
this mornign before coming to work, i emptied the two chests of drawers, and pulled them out tipping them so i could see right underneath but no buddy. i took the drawers of the beds (half cabin bed types) and pulled them away so i could look under, cleared the shoes and looked in each shoe from the bottom of the wardrobe, but still no sign.
i'm pretty sure that buddy could only be in the boys bedroom, but will move the furniture in my bedroom and the girls bedroom when i get home tonight.
anyone anymore ideas? ds2 is distraught that buddy is missing and cried all the way to school this morning.(he's 8)

Our hamster Treacle escaped so many times....but thankfully never ventured too far. One time she gave me a heart attack by crawling over my feet while i was sat at the computer on MN doing something important.

Another time we had been out of the house since early one morning (had to take ds to hospital) and the next day I sent XH to the house to get some supplies and he found the Treacle sitting at the top of the stairs. As usual dd hadn't shut the cage properly but I have no idea how long Treacle might have been out in that instance!

We now have 4 guineapigs which don't even try to escape even when the front is left off the front of their outdoor hutches! They are homing pigs.

Glad it turned out OK!

We were away at Easter & a friend of daughters had the dwarf hammies for us.
One got out-and at midnight the poor girl woke to find it making a nest in her hair.

At least it was easy to find

Hi our hamster has escaped and come back 3 times now!

The first time she went out of a window into the garden and i put her cage outside and she was back in the morning! Praise the lord!

The next time she was out in the house and in the middle of the night I heard her scrabbling on the bathroom floor and when i got up she ran over my feet and i picked her up.

The most recent time I put newspaper down upstairs and heard her running around and caught her. All very stressful!

they are the best little escape artists ever! we always found ours by following the trail of destruction! including the phone line being eaten through! found him fast asleep behind the phone table

sullysmum · 25/05/2010 23:33

Many years ago ours also escaped into the house walls, he kept coming up into next doors bedroom, instead of catching him for us the cow stuffed the hole up and we never saw him again, RIP Ruffles!
