Lone bunny advice

After loosing our female bun earlier in the week I now have our male bunny alone and need some ideas on keeping him happy.

He is 3 1/2 and has had 2 rescue female companions in his life. Both of whom have become ill and died within a year of having them. While I am all for rescuing, we are currently not in a financial position to pay out for a third companion and their associated vet bills.

I know that having a lone bun is not advised but for now we have no choice. How can I keep him happy?

He is an outdoor bunny, he's shut in his hutch/run overnight and has the run of our garden during the day. He doesn't really care for human companionship!

I was going to suggest house rabbit but if he's not keen on human company then it might not work. I read somewhere that lots of human company can make up for lack of a bunny partner.
