Calling all --shortarses-- petites

Now I have a toddler and a baby I suddenly realise the lure of online shopping. Clearly I can't go into shops to buy clothes any more

I'm 5'3 and very a bit tubby round the tum, with huge BFing knockers and always wear flats these days so I need suggestions for online shops/ranges that will suit someone who basically looks round with two short legs sticking out the bottom... Am a size 14 BTW.

Guessing petite ranges - got a petite coat last year and the difference was startling ie it was actually the right proportions.

Any ideas? Will be eternally grateful

peacocks have got alot of shorter leg jeans in atm.

they have some lovely slouch ones for this autumn, and their boot cut ones ( some of them) are really great.

I think Topshop petite may go down to a 6, but not in all the styles.

I've been claiming to be 5'3" for years but last week the consultant took one look at me and said "no, you're not."

Sigh.

Yes, wonderweb is my best-friend! I am such a short-arse that I have to shorten trousers from petite ranges if I want to wear them with flats.

I second the children's clothes suggestion. I particularly like Monsoon's children's skirts as they are the only ones that fit my vv narrow waist.

Well, it was narrow before a baby decided to occupy that particular bit of real estate.

Gap also go down to an 0 which works for me but you do have to rummage about for those. I think Gap is now available online via ASOS, btw. FCUK's "6" is so gigantic that I am currently wearing one of their dresses as a maternity tent.

I recommend investing in some hemming tape too, as although it doesn't last all that long, it saves a great deal of painstaking sewing.

thanks.will look at gap,h and m and new look(i can be a teen although theyre all taller than me!).

cant be arsed with zara as dont want to have to take trousers up.for once i would like some that fit nicely without me having to get dh to take in/take up!

cheesesarnie, I haven't noticed sorry, I can imagine gap would, but maybe, if I was that slim, I would be trying trendy children's clothes, such as h&m teen section, new look have teenage section too I think?

Zara too - but they are very long in the leg, so you would have to get them altered.

I'm 5ft and like New Look jeans, Asda & Tesco sometimes have decent petite stuff, I buy most of my work clothes from Next Petite. Wallis is a joke I think their petite is for 5ft 5in!

foosa I have a friend who is 4'11 and a half. That half is important to her!

I think probably whatever height you are you have problems - I guess most trousers are cut for someone 5'6 with a 2 inch heel? It's that thing where you haul the trousers on and there is a good two foot of material on the end of them.

I am going to try and leave DD1 with someone later in the week, and hit the shops. Will be trying all of your suggestions - fingers crossed!

pah, 5' 3" is not petite in my book

I am 4' 11" and beleive me it is a monumental pain finding clothes that fit properly

Thanks Brokenspacebar - will have a look next time I'm in town. DD1 will be v happy to go to Topshop!

M&S short length are slightly too short for me - and medium too long: tis a pain. I tend to get medium and tiptoe!

Another vote for M&S short length trews here. I love, love, love their cord boot cut trousers and have had 4 different pairs in the past. I'm 5'1" and their short length is perfect for me.

mellifluouscauliflower, that is true, post-baby when you would wear anything so long as it fit BHS does have a place....

M&S trousers and jeans are not good for me, cut is all wrong. Some tops can be OK though and I got a nice parka from the new indigo range. A lot of the RI stuff doesn't suit me (am 41), but I've always liked their jeans. Agree with New Look, and also TU at Sainsbury's - had forgotten them! I got a nice pair of slouchy jeans from there, short leg, for 18 quid.
I used to like Next jeans until a year or so ago, when they seemed to change the fit. I thought it was me, until one of my friends made the same comment!
Some online catalogues (eg freemans) also do some petite stuff.

No one has mentioned BHS - what they lack in style, they make up for with an understanding of middle aged spread..
