not as bad as someone waxing round your fanjo and nearly pulling off a lip

but it's still a bit painful - if you have bingo wings then you have to get her to pull the skin really taut or it hurts worse.

I hasten to add it does hurt if your therpaist is crap and does it incorrectly! You need to pull against the direction of growth whilst stretching the skin firmly and get the client to hold down theor boob! You need to apply the wax (if it is warm wax) in the direction of hair growth. If you have excessive bruising then it has been done incorrectly. Unfirtunately with the popularity of the beauty industry now there are a vast amount of rubbish therapists out there - a bit like hairdressers.

I always repeat never be afraid to ask to see qualifications, ask about insurance etc and if you feel uncomfortable you can leave!

The best thing is to go to someone who has been recommended.

If I could afford it I would have laser on my pits but I am in desperate need of licposuction first not in the armpit area I hasten to add!

Another member joining the hard and hairless club. Legs, bikini line and pits epilated with no pain.

hard and hairless corner, BIWI!

I hope all these people aren't shaving their pits, cos if there's one thing I really don't like it's a stubbly pit. Rather have a full on pubic bush under there.

I epilate mine once a week takes about a minute and only hurt the first time cos I keep them short and my pits look fab.
Always do it before bed so don't need to put deodorant on til morning.

It hurts briefly because it's over very quickly.

yep - they use cotton thread and it pull the hair out

i don't know quite how they do it but it is brill

it hurts a lot less than waxing IME

Pulls the hairs out by grasping them tight.

DIFF - if it felt like boiling tar and you were really red afterwards then the wax must have been too hot!! Therapist is supposed to check temperature before applying. There is some redness afterwards but it should not feel hot - just warm. Done properly it can make a huge improvment to someones face shape.

eyebrows are nothing in comparison with armpits.

Once and never again for armpits. Every month for eyebrows.

Really ruby slippers? Have not seen it offered at the local salon (is that the right term? It used to be 'beauty parlour')
Is that when they use cotton? How does that actually pull the hairs out?

I think it is less painful to wax than pluck eyebrows!

I had my eyebrows waxed for the first time on June 26th. It felt like boiling oil was being spread over my skin- never again! Long live the unibrow!

Xena - get your eyebrows threaded if you can

hurts a lot less and the shape is better IMO

TheOriginalXENA · 08/09/2008 21:18

I would never consider doing it myself. I have my legs/eyebrows and bikini line waxed, due to go tomorrow and I was wondering if I should go for armpits as well.

I totally agree - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO YOURSELF!!!! Also make sure therapist is experienced, fully qualified and insured - don't be scared to ask to see qualifications etc - best to go to someone who is recommended IMO.
