Best Shampoo/conditioner for highlighted longish hair?

Jewelsandgems · 19/07/2008 19:15

My hair is highlighted with pale beige blonde tones and is just below shoulder length (picture on profile) Keeping it this colour is fine, but I do find I am getting a certain amount of dryness and my blonde is not as bright as when first done.

Have used the John Frieda blonde products in the past but have never been that impressed with them.

Can anyone recommend a good shampoo/condtioner that will give good condition, and keep the colour bright? (plus my hair is fine, so something that is not to 'heavy' if pos)

Thanks!

i'd like to know too. atm i use pantene but use the john frieda colour bright once or twice a month to zing up the colour. don't find it great to use all the time though.

also use a natural bristle hairbrush

southeastastra · 19/07/2008 19:21

oops sorry it's charles worthington.

bellavita · 19/07/2008 19:22

I buy Tresemme shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair. My hairdresser said she would slap me if I ever used anything like pantene apparently it is too harsh for coloured hair.

She gives seal of approval for Tresemme though.

Aussie 3-minute miracle do a coloured hair version. It is very rich but I have fine hair and I don't find that it weighs it down any more than any other conditioner.

southeastastra · 19/07/2008 19:23

what's wrong with pantene?

artichokes · 19/07/2008 19:26

If you are prepared to pay a little more than the Aveda Brilliance range is really good. It mostiurses without weighing your hair down and it is good with colour. My hair is fine and highlighted and I swear by it.

bellavita · 19/07/2008 19:28

She said pantene was too harsh.

southeastastra · 19/07/2008 19:32

oh will stop using that then!

DorotheaPlenticlew · 19/07/2008 19:34

My hairdresser has also told me before that Pantene is quite bad for hair (don't know why exactly, something to do with being harsh but having loads of silicone or something in it to make hair "seem" healthy). She recommended the Aussie range but I've had mixed results from that and don't really like the way it smells.

I've recently been using the James Brown range from Boots and really like it - my colour is similar to OP's. Nice and light, seems effective, smells nice.

i loved the paul mitchell conditioner (with carrots on it) but it's £££

bellavita · 19/07/2008 19:36

There are so many shampoos and conditioners out there though, tis hard to know what to buy.

Think sometimes it is easy to by swayed by the lovely packaging on some!

Agree with artichokes though - Aveda stuff is nice.

Jewelsandgems · 19/07/2008 19:51

I am reading up an all those suggestions and it is hard bella! Because there are so many out their claiming to do all sorts, but it is hard to get one that delivers...

Have used aveda stuff in the past and it was nice, can't remember why I switched brands!!

Do you all use any heat hair protection products and - of so - which one? I do dry my hair and straighten, so any advice there greatfully received too!!

cornsilk · 19/07/2008 19:54

I like mop c - system.

southeastastra · 19/07/2008 19:57

i don't use any heat products, maybe that's why lots of hair falls out when i've just had them done!

lumpsdumps · 19/07/2008 20:09

I've been told by my hairdresser that Tresemme and pantene strips the colour out of your hair and that she would slap me if I used them. Had to use Tresemme whilst on holiday as that was all that was available and sure enough the colour faded loads within the week. I use Redken Colour shampoo and conditioner and it's fab.

Jewelsandgems · 19/07/2008 20:13

lumps is that the colour extend shampoo and condition ranger, or the 'blonde glam' range?

OP posts:
lumpsdumps · 19/07/2008 20:44

Colour extend and I can get away with colouring my hair every 5 weeks, which as a red is very good especially during the summer. It leaves my hair feeling really soft every wash and very rarely needs an extra treatment.

Blondilocks · 19/07/2008 20:47

I like the Aussie range now .... it smells lush & my hair seems a lot more manageable & less dry afterwards.

I also like John Frieda but I guess everyone's hair is different. I only tried it as I had a coupon & now buy it when it's on offer!

I used to use Pantene, but found it made my head really dry so switched over.

My hairdresser says to comb it initially after putting the conditioner on as it protects the hair. I have noticed a difference as it's much easier to get the knots out before & then they seem to stay away longer. I have really thick hair which can be a right pain!

bellavita · 19/07/2008 22:14

I use Tony & Guy heat spray before drying and using straighteners.

I also put loads of conditioner on in the shower and massage it through to the ends of my hair and leave for a good few mins.

I have a full head of highlights done every six months and parting highlights done every three, the colours never fade using Tresemme.

expatinscotland · 19/07/2008 22:16

What's your budget like?

I loved Kerastase.

bellavita · 19/07/2008 22:21

expat - I used to use that years and years ago - was very nice.

expatinscotland · 19/07/2008 22:22

i used it when i had highlighted hair and it worked well.

the other line i liked was Redken.

arfishy · 19/07/2008 22:43

I just popped in to say Keratase too. My hair loves it.

I use GHD heat spray on my hair before using hot stuff.

arfishy · 19/07/2008 22:45

Actually, I also use Redken, I have their serum.
