Well the last time I wore a dress or skirt was in 2000!
I work in the creative industry and have a work uniform of jeans and....umm that's it!
My nephew is getting married 1st week of June and it's going to be pretty traditional and I haven't got a clue where to start.
I'm 5'8, wear a 14, no waist, no hips 36C norks.
Don't really want to show my legs or arms or waist or anything really but I guess I'm going to have to. This is giving me a headache just thinking about it
Please someone tell me what to get...

Well try the next one and go from there I had to buy a fecking size 20 to fit my norks and sil has had to take it in everywhere else! I have large norks a small waist and decent sized ips. Everyone on the other wedding thread was advising floaty wraps and the like and I never thought a dress like this would suit me but by God it's a miracle. It gives me a perfect orglass figure. It's a structured stretch satin material withc cup norks and a 14 waist i'd go for a 14 qand it should fit fine I swear tis dress will give you gorgeous hips and if it needs taking in take it to a dressmaker it's an easy job and the dress is only £50 so you can afford too.

It's the fit thats going to be a problem for me...
according to Coasts measurements, my hips are a 10, my norks a 12 and my waist a 14

It does Jackie I won't wear the sash but underneath that is a black band if you see whhat I mean so very flattering. Sil is in fashion as was suprised at how well it's made for the price.

Trust me that dress i've linked to is magic I tried on all the floaty stuff and it makes me look fatter this one gives me curves in all the right places.

THat's nice, Ledodgy - and the fact that the belt is under the bust, rather than round the waist, means the dress would skim over ingles's waist area and not highlight it.

I've bought
this for a wedding next week I'm wearing it without te belt with bolero like tis but nicer from next clearance shop I'm a size 14-16 and this dress is the most flattering i've tried on I ad to get the size up to fit my norks but sil is taking it in and even she says it looks lovely.

Really - personal shoppers are fab - I used one to find a wedding outfit when I was pg, and took my mum along and found her 3 everyday outfits. There really isn't any pressure to buy. Hope you find something you love, or at least feel comfortable in.

Dh said I should book a personal shopper at selfridges.. am a bit frightened of being bullied into buying something that isn't me iykwim. No blunt friends nearby either..
I'll go and find a Coast...
Thanks so much Jackie

I like both the patterns, but not 100% convinced of them together. Lovely colours though. I think a trip to coast - do you have a Blunt Friend (as Cod puts it) you can take with you? Or try to go when it's quiet, not a Saturday, and grab an assistant and try on everything in sight, to find out what suits you.

The other alternative is to go to one of the big department stores and book a session with the personal shopper - can be a less stressful way of shopping.

I thought the grey were really nice too...
I like the pattern of this dress... what do you think?

Yes - I saw those and thought they'd be good - but as it's a wedding, maybe in the grey rather than the black? Youll need to be a bit careful what your top does round the waist area, or maybe lose the belt.

do you think I could get away with these ?

Well that one's from Coast - they're definitely good for weddings - lots of wide legged trousers too.

Maybe some wide legged trousers, with a blouse like this (frills to add volume up top, so your waist looks smaller), then a stunning hat?
