Good quality cashmere that is not too expensive

Looking for good quality cashmere at average prices (i.e. not £300 for a jumper). Any recommendations?

How do you rate Boden or John lewis cashmere jumpers?

I buy high street as it’s what I can afford and have had no problems with Pure, John Lewis or
M&S.
I’ve got some White Company cashmere in the sales which is also nice

Brora in the clearance sale - lasts for years.

My best cashmere jumper is Jaeger (bought in the sale). Going strong for years.

A PP mentioned John Smedley; I didn't know they did cashmere but their merino knitwear is incredible quality.

Ebay and good charity shops, plus an electric de-bobbler thingy to keep them nice

Theory via the Outnet, and I concur with PP who recommend quality stuff on discount over cheaper full price.

Woolovers. I have multiple cashmere mix jumpers and they are lovely and cosy. About £50 a jumper

I've had a different experience with a Woolovers cashmere mix jersey. MIne was absolute rubbish.

I'd second the pps who said Ebay and other secondhand places.

Oh I have some from John smedley and Hawico too. Go second hand for superior quality.

My cashmere is from Brora, N Peal, Repeat and Johnstons. The older stuff (particularly Brora) is better quality. The size 10 is also tiny compared to current size 10 (this is how I delude myself into thinking I’m still a size 10 Grin)

Jigsaw cashmere is lovely I’ve just picked up two cardigans in the sale

Thanks a lot everyone, I didn't follow your advice and bought one jumper from Boden (it was 20% off) - horrible thing, very tight and unbelievably itchy. Already sent back.

I will explore the other recommendations then. Brora is great, but I don't like their shapes and colors that much to pay £300. Uniqlo I haven't had good experience with either. The search continues!

second hand on ebay, good makes - Lyle and Scott, Brora, Johnstons, Pringle etc. I never pay more than £40 and it is way better than the £100 + stuff in M&S, Boden and Jigsaw. My theory is that a lot of it was given as presents and not worn, then sold on because it does have a value. My very best pieces are vintage, I think they were stored for best many years ago and then sold when their owners died or no longer needed them.

I second JL and M&S. I've bought Uniglo before and the quality isn't fab, but to be honest, the price is (or was) much lower so I didn't mind as much.

One day I am going to buy a White Company cashmere dressing gown. Last time I was in there, pre covid, they had a gorgeous cashmere pashmina. But even marked down it was so out of my price range I just had to walk away....

Greybow* you are welcome.

I'm very luck, the shop is only a short drive away😍

J Crew filed for bankruptcy? Nooooo.

Although I always found it very overpriced in the UK but bought some great stuff in their US stores.

Agree with J. Crew but similar to @queenofarles it was a few years ago. Does anyone else find that you come back to a good brand a year/few years later and the quality has dropped massively?

I've had good luck with a brand called Grana, and they usually have sales if you're willing to wait and watch.

I also second Pure, but with them it's best if you can see the products in store. Sometimes the quality is great and sometimes it's kinda meh.

Finally - my biggest tip: if you're anywhere near London hit this up www.chicmi.com/event/n-peal-cashmere-sample-sale-london-september-2020/

It's still expensive but I've never been disappointed with anything from them.

Johnstons of Elgin. They are £££ but worth every penny.

J.crew used to do good cashmere , but I think they’ve filed for bankruptcy a few months ago.

I agree that Merino Lambswool is just as good. I. Have some good ones from A.P.C, Ganni .

@Blossomgate thank you for posting that 😊

Although, as am aside. How can that Boden biscuit tunic possibly look good on anyone 🤷🏻‍♀️????

I think you get what you pay for with cashmere. I have a couple of Brora jumpers that are 15 years old and still look like new. You’re better off with merino if you don’t want to pay Brora prices.

I also rate Lands End - fantastic quality and good value with 40% discount.

I've got some cashmere from White stuff and I haven't had problems with bobbling. Only a year old though so might still happen. They also put it in the sale quite often.

My best cashmere jumpers are from Pure-sometimes available through John Lewis. Often have sales. They are better than Boden, which I also think are good quality. I have two cardigans from Tesco-surprisingly good. M@S are soft but only ok.

I have lots of M&S cashmere and it lasts well. Currently sitting here in my M&S cashmere PJs and dressing gown

I had a cashmere jumper from H and M. I’ve had it about 5 years and am now retiring it after wearing it at least twice a week for Autumn, Winter and Spring each year.

It is still lovely but it has a slightly soapy feel due to washing which I can’t shift (I did use a wool wash).
