Should I buy this zipped hoodie?

I keep looking at this AllSaints hoodie

www.johnlewis.com/allsaints-jessi-biker-hoodie/smoke-grey/p4919256

It's more than I'd usually spend. I've never bought from AllSaints before, so not sure of the sizing. Did a bit of research, which suggested sizing can be a quite random. I'd need to order direct as JL is out of medium. I love the shade of grey and like that it's not sporty.

Any thoughts?!

We must live very different lives if £90 on a hoodie is the norm OP - not a criticism, bloomin lucky you! Grin

I don't think it's anything special and All Saints is pretty naff, the only place I've ever had anyone singing their praises is mumsnet, wherein it seems to be biblical that an All Saints leather jacket is a must buy 'investment' item. I have one (a birthday gift about 8 years ago) it's alright, I rarely wear it as I think they too have had their day by some years.

If you like it, get it.

She looks it @midnightstar66. I’m 5’8” so I am not short but I have a disproportionately long back for my height. That hoody would come nowhere near where it falls on the model on me, it would be far more cropped and “pineappley”. As for actual crop top - they are little more than bras on me!

GetUpAgain · 02/05/2020 08:35

I like almost all of it, but the back looks too swingy- I feel like it would be too drafty. I am always cold though!

Won't allsaints models be pretty tall though? I imagine they use catwalk type rather than catalogue?! So the clothes will fit a longer body where one from primark or H&M might not

I really like it. I probably wouldn't spend that much on a hoodie but if it lasts it could be good value, it would certainly go with a lot of things.

If you have a long body, that will be very short on you. The proportions will be wrong and it will be too short. My height is mostly in my torso, and that hoody would barely cover my boobs.

It looks a bit boxy to me. I have a long body and those sort of garments never really sit right on me.

Report
hopsalong · 02/05/2020 08:11

No. Unless, like the model, you're tall, super slim and very flat chested, this is going to look much worse than a longer hoodie with a bit more shape. I'm a thin person and I have a cardigan like that and it makes me look middle-aged and boxy.

Oh I like that OP, I like the detail at the elbows. I particularly like the ivory, it would go with more of my clothes - might even buy it if my holiday refund comes through. Out of interest what size are you that you're considering M? I usually buy S but too half my shoulders are quite wide in on the larger side of a 10 but not quite a 12 - also long body

Love these posters on style and beauty that think that style is equivalent to functional, practical and cheap.

That is a ridiculous price for a dysfunctional garment which leaves your bum freezing.it just looks a bit silly.

Do you love it? Will you wear it? Can you afford it? If the answer to all of these is yes, then you don’t need our permission.
But I’m generally not the person people come to to be talked out of buying something...Smile

Just to say again that I am a total cheapskate when it comes to clothes and have never considered All Saints as its far too expensive for me but the outlet section on their site is a revelation - nice stuff and a full range of sizes not just the weird stuff in size 4.

I’ve bought several pieces from All Saints (only ever in the sales though!) and with one exception they’ve lasted well and are nicely cut. That hoodie isn’t to my personal taste but it seems much crazier to spend £20 on something that’ll look like crap after two washes than £90 on a staple that’ll last for years because it’s well made, so OP: if you like it and can afford it, buy it!

Oh it is lovely!!!! But i agree overpriced at £89 but great brand with long lasting clothes. Wait and see if it gets reduced or if there are any promocodes as all businesses are struggling at the moment and trying to concentrate on internet sales. ‘In the current climate’ i think you are allowed to treat yourself to a pick me up that will last longer than chocolate or wine 😊

Personally I’ve always been happy with everything I’ve bought from all saints. Yes it’s pricey but i get a lot of wear out of the dresses/jumpers I have, they wash well and the quality is great. I find that other than really fitted items they are quite generous and usually go down a size. My main concern with the one you posted is that it’s cropped so might not work for you.

I would go to Weekday and check out their selections before making a decision.

It really honestly looks nowhere near that money. It's a pretty boring grey hoody. Cotton. So what? £90?? Mental.

I think it looks wrecked. I agree with @zenasfuck, there are much nicer and cheaper hoodies out there. H&M do lovely quality hoodies in various colours.

I really like it. I think if you can afford it and will wear it lots then go for it. Makes more sense to spend lots of money on the basics, you are far more likely to get your moneys worth spending £90 on a hoody than £90 on a dress for an event.

CaptainBlunderpants · 26/04/2020 11:23

That is not £90 nice. I bought a jack wills hoody in the sale for £40 and it’s so warm and comfy.

You say you have a long body yet this looks quite cropped or at least short in the body. All Saints do this boxy style quite a bit. So this could end up being too short for you, which would be my main concern.

I really like it (although I do agree that it is overpriced). I think all saints often is. Having said that I bought a dress there last year that was probably overpriced but I loved it and nearly every time i wore it i had random people coming up to me and asking where I bought it. So it was worth it to me (which is most important question).

I think All Saints is generally true to size although some of their very fitted stuff runs small. As this is very baggy I would either order your normal size, or, if you are between sizes, size down.

Sandleman · 26/04/2020 01:31

I love it. You should get it if you like it.

I’ve come to realise that it’s worth spending more on the clothes I wear all the time; Leggings, hoodies, sweatshirts. Cost per wear, it would be worth it for me.
