Feel like I'm nearly done with Bum...

Anyone else follow doesmybumlook40 and feel that the last few weeks/months in particular have just descended into some sort of manic, Davina McCall circa 1998ish, QVC channel?

Avon was on the market stall today - 3 for a pound, lovely and shiny take one home for your mother love. Three for a pound.

Free lipstick with that?

Everything with her is an advert now. Barely any non-PR/sales content.

Endless hyper vocal modulation on stories, actual screeching a lot of the time - who can put up with that?

And please stop fingering your eyes - that's not going to improve your eczema.

And the psychological issue with jeans, particularly skinny jeans.

The big dresses and skirts - I know all the other insta-mental mums are plugging these endlessly too - why?

Big dresses on tiny women.

BoHo will not make you look young - although it will make you look as though you work in a charity shop and get first dibs on the donations - if that's what you want to look like.

Bum is evolving a new enhanced 'fake forgetfullness' thing on stories which enables her to fill endless seconds restarting the same sentence without ever getting to the end or actual saying anything anyway other than, where are my sunglasses and aren't other people annoying and look at my spot, or I'm not wearing makeup, look at my eczema, watch me poke around my eyes with a long nail... yeuuch!!!

I don't know whether to feel sorry for one of the richest women on instagram that it has all descended to this or disappointed in myself for continuing to watch

Mind you, it could be going car crash, and I suppose that's worth watching for - the first instagrammed breakdown... they'd probably fake one anyway just for the stats..

That's another annoying thing.. trying to get people to contact them to boost the 'follower engagement' stats...

What's your fave lippy? message me now

Do you prefer this one or that one? message me now

Like Pavlov's dogs

Can anyone remember where I left my keys - message me now

I used to think she was absolutely fab - funny, good taste, human etc. I actually quite like her clothes still, maxis and all, but her instastory thingies are just sooooo cringe. It has really put me off and I've had to unfollow her.

futuristic1 that's actually made me laugh out loud!! 😂

Watched some of Bum's stories yesterday and she was barely managing to resist screaming at her daughter. Don't get me wrong, I don't care if she screams at her entire family from dawn 'til dusk, - I just don't want it presented to me as entertainment!

The 'modern family', 'aren't we hilarious', all in this together, type of parenting - it's annoying to proper adults to listen to this screechy crap.

How on earth is that meant to encourage me to BUY anything?

On the HUGE dresses on TINY women thing - I'm sure it's not just me that sees Stepford, Mary Poppins etc - this does not talk to me as an independent adult.

I don't want to look like Norman Bates' mum or David Walliams and Matt Lucas in drag.

Please! Just wear normal clothes!!!

That dress gifted from Ridley is £400! I agree that an interesting holiday wardrobe would probably include shorts, shorter sundresses, wraps and tunics. It could be a good opportunity to ring the changes.

@bluekittens what was very refreshing about Kat's post on SEN and the reality of holidays, the fact that it had #ad after it? Or was it that she was saying that holidays were particularly tough for children with Aspergers....and yet she takes him on holiday at least 4x per year?

I can't stand her stories either. So. Much. Affectation.

@onemouseplace, it’s the same company, it looks as if it was the same house too but I thought the one MOD stayed in was bigger.

I would agree too about Avon, the old Kat always tried to get what she wanted at the lowest cost. She wasn’t a label snob at all, her budget was a lot less back then too.

onemouseplace · 31/05/2018 21:53

Is the villa she’s staying in the same one MOD/FOD stayed in last year with the same company?
I’ve also ‘known’ Kat for years via various forums and I think the people who are slating her for being the sort who would never use Avon are being unfair - the Kat I know (and have met) would always be delighted to find a decent, cheaper brand that does the job perfectly well, whilst also being very happy to shop high end.

I do agree though that I dip in and out of her IG stories these days as I have to be in the right mood for them.

The product that she is flogging is the holiday villa company and lifestyle expectations associated with the holiday villa (family joy, antique furniture, beautiful scenery, bla bla bla). It didn't work for me.

I used to love Kat in the beginning, I actually bought a lot of things she had, loved the Linen T's from Zara, a few of the blazers she had etc. Im totally different body style to her but loved her style and picked things that worked for me.
But that was a long time ago. I really don't like her style now. I guess people change and maybe she's more fashion led now, rather than what a normal person would wear (ie jacket, tshirt, jeans). I can't listen to the stories and have infact stopped following her on Instagram some while ago.
I agree she was better when she bought her on clothes. I also used to like her home posts, i've some candlesticks from Matalan that I bought many years ago now, but would never of found them if it wasnt for her.

Her holiday wardrobe is disappointing - the same maxi dresses she wears at home. I think they must be really uncomfortable to wear in the heat - especially the polyester ones. Not expecting her to wear horrible garish colours but what about shorts, cotton kaftans, shorter length sun-dresses, etc.

So boring going on a sun holiday and wearing clothes you’d wear everyday at home.

It was a lot more interesting when Kat actually bought most of her clothes herself.

Ive followed her for years, but recently I've thought she is having some MAJOR style crisis, to the point where nothing she wears appeals at all Confused

I don't watch anyone's stories they are all annoying.

Instagrammers plugging Avon make me laugh. They're always super rich types who wouldn't touch Avon with a barge pole in usual circumstances. Another instagrammer has actually posted today that she is working with Avon today and I cannot imagine her ever wearing or buying Avon ordinarily...

Well I’m an extra follower of her thanks to this thread- never heard of her before and I’m looking for people to follow on instagram who aren’t too cool, young or hip (so that I can relate to them!)

Her pics are good and the writing is ok, but the stories are odd. So much face pulling, jerkiness and affected speech. I don’t like slagging people off - especially online and people that I don’t know - but I don’t understand who enjoys these stories. They are uncomfortable to watch. Also her husband & kids are in the background listening to her walking around, talking at a manic pace into her phone. That’s not a holiday! What must the Corfunians think? It reminds me of when I was a kid, pretending to fake present an art/ cooking/ travel show. Except she’s a grown woman.

Ruth C’s stories are much more watchable, but I’m still not convinced about the insta stories as a medium. They’re just a bit of a naff format for non-professional presenters. I don’t think many people can pull it off well, so I wouldn’t be too hard on the bum lady. She’s just trying to sell us stuff by being engaging- it’s her job.

If I’m going to get philosophical about it, I think this just exemplifies the downside of social media and the way society is heading. That we are choosing to watch badly produced informercials of our own free will!

Walking around my town, watching people taking selfies, walking into people while surfing on their phone, pulling duck faces and wotnot- is funny but also a bit disheartening. So is fake news, sharing crap or hate content, data mining etc. There’s a lot that’s unnatural about it all. I suppose media has always been unnatural and fake (eg Hollywood), but social media is penetrating into what is supposed to be ‘real life’ so it’s blurring the lines much more.

I will continue to enjoy social media, but I’ll always be mindful that it isn’t representative of the real world.

Agree it doesn't make me want to go on their holidays. I've looked at some stories and she is really going on about the villa she has been gifted, nothing much about the island she is staying at: a post about the pergola, one about the balcony, an old chest, rugs etc etc sell, sell, sell. Stick to the fashion at least.

All the free/ discounted holidays must be hard to say no to, but I do feel the freebies mean bloggers lose credibility. Does not incite me to book/ buy in anyway. Whereas when it's seems to be random trying on in a changing room, I quite like that !
Really dislike including children in ad posts.

OK I've read the Trinny piece and now I feel sorry for her. Camilla Long's shtick is just being really mean, and in this case I don't think it's warranted.

(On another note, did anyone else see CL describe new fave Doria as wearing 'WhatsApp green'? It couldn't have been less WhatsApp green if it tried!).

I didn’t read it wips. Trinny gets my goat, rude, manic and all of her beauty ‘advice’ re ingredients and supplements (half of which she can’t even pronounce) is just nonsense. She has no idea and spouts off like she’s an authority, which of course all of the followers lap up and take as gospel.

Have you seen the YouTube bathroom video where she cut the woman’s hair Shock. She just grabs the ponytail and hacks it off, meanwhile the woman who is there for an ‘expert’ chat (I think she’s some beauty PR) looks horrified and really uncomfortable.

I've been on a thread here about tee shirts, some good suggestions about ones that are cotton, not see through, wash well, tum skimming etc. Really helpful and useful. These bloggers lose credibility if everything is promoted, genuine critical advice not given eg, looks nice, fabric sweaty, or buttons not good, etc.

Did anyone read Camilla Long's piece in the Sunday Times on Trinny yesterday? Ouch!!

Agree with you, OP. I, too, have followed her for years and years but recently have been unable to watch any of her stories because she is just a poor man's (everything being relative!) Trinny and it's too much.

I loved her blog, and her love for fashion, and her dedication to hunting down every possible type of eg LBD or whatever. I also liked her take on having a child with SEN.

I'm hoping she'll go back to how she was before.
