Have we had a “this is why TKMaxx is brilliant” thread recently?

If not, I’m starting one.
Today, looking through the fairly depleted clearance rail, my eyes were drawn to a lovely fine knit soft grey jumper. Alas XL and I am a definite small (or poss M for a sloppy-Joe look). But dsil pulled it out, saw it was Pringle, and said no way is that XL, try it on. So I did and it fits like a dream. I think it’s bad labelling are why it was reduced from £195 to £21 ShockSmile
I had a great day, 2 pairs of gorgeous tailored work trousers for £16 each and 2 Kew shirts, also for £16.
Oh and a jacket for dh, on the clearance rail for £29 (the benefit of having a skinny husband with long arms or something like that!)

So, what wonderful buys have you had recently?

See, I don't think that brand/price is necessarily an indication of quality. I've got a skirt from there that I've had over 10 years. It's a generic brand which is probably one of their own and it gets pulled out every summer. It's still perfect. I treated myself to a Pucci blouse a few years back. V considered purchase. After about 4 wears it looked years old. I stood and argued (politely) with the manager until I got a refund.

Any tips for searching the online shop?

Afraid no tips for the online shop as I love in instore rummage along the clearance rails! I agree with you though Pumpkin, if you like it and it's a good price I don't think it matters what the label says. That said, I do get extra excited when it's a brand I recognise as super expensive reduced to a few ££!

I’ve bought some gorgeous Carvella trainers and heels from there, then seen the same ones in the KG shop for triple what I paid. I don’t go often because I can’t be bothered to rummage but I normally come out with something random from the home bit.

2 of my fave dresses are from TK maxx less than 20 quid each. Great cut, great fabric and wearing and washing well so far. A yellow leather Betty barclay bag. I know it was cheap and I've had it for years. I also have a grey tote it's plastic though and splitting a bit but I knew that. Firmly resolved to only buy leather now.
Soap. I love real soap always get it there. Discounted perfume. Esp artisan parfumeur. Night dresses. PJs
I have some of the Kew stuff- no idea if genuine or not but it is good.
You need an eye and time and total non distractability tho. I'm in training still, but totally love it. We have one locally tho and I wouldn't go if looking for something specific. But I have a list of wardrobe gaps and am quite good at checking quality. I go often have a quick whizz through see if I score. My fave shopping successes are tk maxx.

I love DKNY bras and always get them from there. Also like a wee rummage about the home section, I bought a gorgeous huge clock last week.

There’s a thread going somewhere where a lady is getting treated appalling as a member of staff at TK Max, although you have to read quite a bit of the thread to realise that is where she is. She’s being denied access to drinking water and previously has struggled to get breaks to change san pro. But erm yeah - it’s brilliant.

I'm surprised people say they don't care what the RRP says. The discount is 90% of the fun for me Grin But I admit I'm a bit of a victim.

That said, our local branch has seriously gone downhill lately and the ratio of shite to gem is just too high now, even for a professional rummager like me. And I just can't be bothered ordering online when the sizing is all over the place. It feels a bit like the end of an era.

Where's that thread Didius?

How timely - I nabbed some bargains from TK Maxx online this morning:

  • - Black sheer floral shirt - The Kooples - £29.99 (got the last one Grin - about a size or so bigger than I'd usually get, but The Kooples tends to run a bit small, anywhoo)
  • - Pink cotton shirt - The Kooples - £24.99
  • - Kenzo silk floral scarf - £39.99 (in a pattern and colours I LOVE, but I nabbed the last one - they had some other styles still in stock, though)

If I like them / everything fits, it will be a bit of a lucky haul!

Does anyone know how the reductions work? I saw a coat in the 'gold collection' clearance section today but it was still too spendy. Looked like first red sticker on it, how long do you reckon I need to hold my nerve for to see if it gets reduced again?

It is my DD's new favourite shop after finding some Stan Smiths and Ellesse trainers for £30 each. I've found some lovely silver brogues, which are not branded but are fabulous and were only £14.99.

I love a good look round the home stuff too and have picked up some Orla Keily bowls for next to nothing.

My friend bought our little mistress bridesmaid dresses from TK for £30 when they were online for £80.

My local tkmaxx is terrible. It looks like a junk yard.

I havent seen a Kew shop for several years so I dont think you've had any major finds there. God knows how long that stock from closed down businesses has been circulating.

My dsis tried on a beautiful Tara Jarmon coat in Paris that was just too expensive for her and found it in tkmaxx the following season for fifty quid.

It used to be better than it is now. I still love the book and craft section and find an occasional bargain.

I don't understand the clearance section as most of it seems to be broken boxes without lids or contents reduced to £4 or packets of pasta reduced to £3 (they would be less than £1 in a supermarket).

Discontinued Dinotrux lego for the boy that's been continuously played with since Christmas- so we bought the rest of the characters from American ebay then I found two sets reduced from £20 to £9 so bought two in case we lose the bits or they get broken (which they are already doing).
