Dear Handbag manufacturers, put a zip along the top!

I know the little magnetic dots are cheaper but I want the security and the dryness. The UK is a pretty wet country most of the time.
I have not bought several options because of this and am now stuck Sad

Would never buy a bag without a zip, would be asking to be pick pocketed on the tube

Has to have a zip pocket on the outside so I can easily get to my oyster card and keys without opening my bag

Needs a slip pocket on the inside to hold my phone (so I can easily get at it without opening the bag fully, and so I can plug in my headphones)

Needs an inner zip up pocket for bits and bobs like gum, powder, lippy

Needs to be able to be worn cross body

I streamlined a lot of the crap I schlepped around with me and managed to go from a massive bag to something a lot more elegant. Absolutely adore my Rebecca Minkoff Regan satchel. Similar ish style to the Balenciaga City, but I actually prefer to the City as much more practical for everyday use

I can get my 11" Macbook Air in at a push, but if I need to carry my work laptop (13" Pro) then I either swap over to my Mulberry Roxanne satchel (which is like a suitcase!) or use a separate laptop bag

Magnetic poppers drive me crazy - completely impractical for any kind of everyday use in a city!

Ooh I've been looking for a tiny zipped, water repellent hand bag for ages.
I like the look of the Kipling bex and emoli.
Sadly the earth squared ones aren't small, water repellent or handbag style all together.

I have a lovely Osprey bag which has a zip, internal pockets, an external slip pocket intended for phones, but which I find perfect for oyster card/train tickets/hotel room keys etc, zip pockets on the front, perfect for tissues/ work name badge, a handle long and wide enough that it sits on my shoulder but the bag is under my arm, and the bag is big enough for all sorts of stuff. Mine is looking a bit aged but I can't find a replacement but I love it!
I have added an Earth Squared bag to my christmas list as I love the look of them, though alas not formal enough for work

Osprey bags are very nicely balanced and almost always have a zip.

I got my wallet pickpocketed years ago on the tube when I was wearing a bag with a cutesy tie-up closure fastening. I've boycotted non-zip bags ever since. Good quality zips don't break - I've got bags 10 years old and sometimes I pick up the whole bag by the zip and it's survived. But manufacturers do cut corners and sew rubbish zips in.

My favourite bag for holiday sightseeing is a Kipling bag which can carry water bottles and has loads of pockets including a zip pocket near the body. I don't wear it in London though because the brand is too naff Blush.

Was just complaining about it when I was looking or a new bag. I tought I had quite simple requirements, just a nice large and elegant bag that I can also carry on my shoulder - and 99% of them are those open bucket types. Easiest thing to pickpocket.

I just ordered an Earth Squared bag. Thanks for the tip. Wonder whether there will be a noticeable spike in their sales, and if so, whether they'll realise why!

Yes, you're right Melted, bags with zip gaps - not fit for purpose!

MeltedPlasticFace · 02/11/2017 10:26

ah BUT, I have noticed lately that the bags with zips in, the zip is not sewn in properly, there is a gap where it starts, and then if the bag gets knocked over, upside down, etc, small objects still fall out! arrrrrgh I even saw some Lulu Guiness bags, that cost a fortune, and their zips are not even sewn in properly! Is it a money saving thing or what? I have not bought a new bag for years because of this. It really annoys me, I have a Kipling from years ago that is perfect but the newer ones have the zip gap and I wont even look at a bag like that, this is what I mean: imagine it zipped up, there are gaps at both ends and things like pens and chapsticks and phones fall out if the bag gets knocked off the car seat. Please put proper zips in bags!

Dear Handbag manufacturers, put a zip along the top!

Zips only for me too. I know that I can put my bag down, and if it gets knocked over, nothing will slip out.

I agree. I've put some lovely bags back in the past because they haven't had a zip

What kind of bags are you looking at that have no zips? I find plenty with zips.

Yes!! So
Many lovely bags.... no bloody zips. Will only buy with a zip

HotelEuphoria · 02/11/2017 08:48

Yes!

I like the security of a zip. Why can't someone manufacture a beautiful soft leather bag with all the clever features of a Kipling but without the ugliness! I love the strap in all theirs that clips to your purse to prevent loss/theft.

I love their bags, they have zips and lots of internal pockets and are well made.

Yes, my dream feature' in a bag would be a simple circle of fabric in one end that keeps a bottle upright. I've even tried to improvise this but the result was clumsy.
