Cosmetic dental treatment

Has anyone had any cosmetic work done? Please share your experiences with me?

I recently went to a cosmetic dentist with hope of getting clear braces upper and lower.

My teeth are in a bit of a state not only gappy crooked but chipped, thinning but I have many huge black fillings.

I knew in advance it would cost £3k but they suggested I opt for crowns. They said if I had some upper and lower it would correct all my problems apart from the fillings but I would be limited in colour choice unless I had a whitening treatment.

The price went from £3k to just under £9k once I saw the before and after photos I knew I wanted it done but wanted all my teeth doing. The price went up to £13k.

My husband has been loosing teeth they are very brittle. He has never had orthodontic treatment and his front teeth are so twisted he can't close his mouth properly. His dentist recommended him to get bridges before he looses anymore that he will need implants. Priced up 4 teeth and he's looking at £2k with the cosmetic dentist. He asked about crowns and the price was massive for us both to have the work it was £30K.

A husband and wife we know have not long ago returned from abroad and both had full sets of crows they look fantastic. After lots of thinking and research we have booked it and are both having a full set of zerconian crowns.

Hi I've recently had six upper vaneers and I love the result they look fab! Although one tooth is sensitive to touch. Has anyone ever had vaneers done before who can give me some first hand experience I've been to the dentist and they wasn't much help. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Having read this thread I need to poke my head above the parapet as a concerned UK dentist.

To start with - I can see why you are pleased. The improvement in your smile is marked and anyone would be pleased with that.

But the question is at what cost? And I don't mean financial and TBH I would like to totally avoid discussing money. UK and foreign markets are totally different and aren't going to change on one internet thread.

The main concern is the destruction of tooth. I don't know how many crowns you ended up having but from what you have posted you had four root fillings which were solely provided to allow the cosmetic treatment. The life of these teeth would be expected to be about 10years on average - if well performed - and when they fail (and they will fail) there is likely to be no option left except extraction for these teeth.

The same or possibly even better results may have been acheivable with some form of orthodontics, whitening and some minor tooth alteration by adding/minor trimming or possibly even veneers. Just to touch on cost for a second - this would possibly have been cheaper financially even at UK prices. More importantly. The amount of tooth damage would be reduced by an order. There may be a little more maintenance (and do mean a little more) in the short term but then we start talking about a smile that might last you a life time. If I assume for arguements sake that you are 30 - then by the time you are 40 it is reasonable for me to assume that you might be needing another few grands worth of treatment to replace lost teeth.

I would love to say that this type of extreme work isn't done in the UK but I know that isn't true. I am also not trying to bad mouth non-uk dentists. I too have seen some technically excellent work done abroad as well as some shocking work UK and abroad. But technically excellent destruction of teeth for the wrong reasons is still harm to the patient.

I know that you are pleased with your end result and I don't want to bring you down on that - so I am expecting this comment not to be well received.

But please.

Anyone in a similar situation please consider non destructive means of fixing. I have seen a few who have regretted the cosmetic work when it all starts to go wrong not that far down the line.
If you are going to do it - I would advise Uk dentistry. Not that we are all better but because one of the reasons we cost more is because we are very heavily regulated.......and when it does go wrong you have a good chance of finding the person who provided the treatment if you want to raise concerns with them.

If it wasn't on a recommendation I wouldn't of done it simply because the work is so amazing it seemed to good to be true. But I will 100% recommend the company.

I have H before but he won't give me a after as he thinks I will show my friends. But I'm waiting for the before and after a and will take it from there fb page.
I have only told a few people we were getting it done.

In terms of guarantee we got a 5 year guarantee on them. They should last about 25 years plus if well maintained with good brushing, mouthwash and water flosser.

Flights are cheap out there so any issues we can go back. We will go back next year as the place was beautiful not had previous good experience with turkey but loved it where we were. They said call the English rep and they will do a free check up next year.

The main thing is know we have the crows so we have said if one were to pop off as long as we have it we can go anywhere and get it cemented in as we live on the doorstep of a cosmetic surgery dentist all be there prices extortionate and we would have had to borrowed on our mortgage to get it done there.

Have the clinic in Turkey given you any sort of paperwork about your crowns or any sort of guarantee / free travel to Turkey / contact in the UK / follow up appointment?

I love looking at dental treatments pictures. I need braces of some sort but must see an orthodontist first to decide on the best course of action. But it'll be at least another 2 years before I can commit to a payment plan because first we need to pay off business debts. My teeth are crooked and ot affects how I talk to people as I'm so conscious of how they sit. But op, yours are remarkable. Good for you!

Wow, I've read this thread with great interest as I'm still suffering from a tooth extraction on sept 1 st.

( pain has reduced a lot and it is healing)

Haven't got my finished photo for you all just yet.

My husbands are finished and the transformation is unbelievable.

In my before picture where my gap is so large the skin Inbetween my teeth hangs down between the teeth so the fit of my top 4 teeth wasn't 100% so I had to have my gum lazer cut so the fit was nice. They placed them in without cement so I could check it all out and said the front 4 could be flatter so they took them back to the lab and I'm in this afternoon. I have the rest cemented in tho and they are fabulous

I don't know if it showed in my picture from the angle taken but my front 2 were buck teeth due to my thumb sucking and even my brace didn't fully correct that.

The treatment I've received has been fantastic. I ended up with 6 root canals and as soon as you flinch from a tiny bit of pain there in there with the injections.

They are very over precautions as these new teeth are permanent so any teeth that look like they may give you problems get treated. I was only down for 4 but once my NHS fillings were dug out they were not happy with the work done so I had one more.

One of my fillings had been playing me up for a little while but I've had it since I was about 10 so over 20years. I told them I had pain in it and they checked the sensitivity and the root came out.

When it comes to teeth I am the biggest wimp in the world but it's been fine. No issues with the language barrier as anything a bit specialist they can't explain a interpreter comes in.
