good hair cut for fine hair? advice needed

no matter what i do my hair has a life of its own.....it's very fine and just seems to sit flat against my head and falls over my shoulders and forward....if that makes sense.
i need to admit defeat that having it long doesn't work because it just ends up a tangled mess and i'm not the sort of person that will spend hours every day faffing with it.....
i've had a very short crop before but i have quite a prominent nose and makes it stand out even more, and i don't want a 'boring' cut either because i'm trying to rediscover the old rather adventurous me......has anyone got any suggestions for a cut that will give my fine limp hair some style?
if i go to one more hairdresser who fobs me off with a trim i will scream........

yes - I too have fine AND thin hair

I have long ago given up on 'long hair' ie beyond my shoulders!! and have a bob - shorter at the back slightly and with highlights ...

used to bother me , but now am quite happy - especially if i pay that bit more and get a 'quality' cut.

I've got baby-fine, (naturally) mousey-brown hair. I wore it in a one-length bob for years: definitely not the best style for me, looking back at old photos - DH calls it my "suburban housewife" look!! I've had it in a super-short inverted bob, then a Gwyneth Paltrow "Sliding Doors" cut, and at the moment it's a choppy crop with highlights. I quite like the current style as it's really quick and easy to look after - quick blast with the hairdryer and finish off with some hair putty or wax to give it some definition.

Short hair has definitely been the way forward for me - sometimes I do look at women with long, lustrous hair with envy but know mine would never look like that even if I grew it, and I like my funky style.

Maybe try adding some highlights as they tend to thicken up fine hair because the individual hairs swell slightly when they are lightened. I know that sounds ridiculous but I trained as a hairdresser and I swear that it's true. Also invest in shampoo, conditioner and styling product specifically for fine hair and dry your hair upside down. A victoria Beckham cut could be a possible as her hair seems to be quite fine.

i quite like the bob Posh was sporting.....i know from past experience it works for my neckline which grows funny, it'll mean regular trips to keep it tidy i suppose.
i was thinking i out to keep the cut relatively simle as i am very daring with colour....i really like Jane Goldman's bright red hair.

I too have very fine hair and really my hair only ever looks half reasonable if it is shoulder length or shorter, certainly not much longer. It's got a bit long now and it's either permanently knotty or full of static ggrrr.

I quite like it sort of shoulder length with slight layers in the front.

I think,speaking as one with fine hair,that you have to give up on long hair - I have tried but it's just no good - and go for a classic,blunt cut short bob -it'll look much thicker and fuller and really is better than limp and floppy.

A funky bob? Or shortish hair like Gwyneth Paltrow had a few years back, colour it as well if you think it is a bit boring.
