I'm currently using Clinique quick liner and I love the effect eyeliner gives but I struggle with the application
I'd love to try a new one
What are you all using and why?

I like Maybelline 24 hour in brown.
Had Bobbi Brown gel one but it dried up terribly.
I have oily eyelids too and everything disappears!

I like the Bourjois Liner Feutre too - nice neat black line, very sharp. My big discovery though has been Laura Mercier Tight Liner, with that flat brush that you sort of wiggle between your lashes. Gorgeous colours (purple makes my eyes look really green; the black is very black), don't budge, give a really polished look. The technique takes a bit of practice but the liners work well on top of the eyelid too.

Best gel liner for me is the Mac one. Really stays put, and doesn't dry up as fast as the Bobbi Brown.

I'll definitely want to try a gel one,
Or the felt top one.
My problem with Quickliner is that it's impossible to get a precise line because it loses it's sharp end.
And it transfers from the top lid on the lower one, as soon as I close my eyes I see it migrating down.

Mac Blackground, which is an almost black with slight charcoal shimmer cream eyeshadow, but I use it as a thick line of eye liner on top lids. Have done for years and years because it doesn't budge and is v easy to apply because it's not too wet. Applied with a Bobbi Brown eyeliner brush, short and stubby so the line is easy peasy - I don't get on with those long, thin, bendy brushes.

I love Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner (current fave is Forest). I apply it with the Bobbi Brown ultra fine eyeliner brush which cost more than the eyeliner but worth it. It is a long brush. I have some of the Bobbi travel sets and never got on with the stubby brushes. I am the world's clumsiest and most impatient person ever so the fact I am able to apply anything to my eyelids is a miracle really.

I also like the estee lauder gel eyeliners too but that was more for the colour extreme emerald which is fabulous.

I have also bought the maybelline and collection 2000 gel eyeliners but found they dried out very quickly and were quite 'cake-y' on application.

Don't ever buy the Number 7 equivalents, have found them to be the worst ever (they never stay on me anyway).

I love Eyeko's one that is like a felt tip pen. So much better than the Chanel felt tip one.

Thanks to this thread I have discovered the concept of "tightlining". Looking forward to giving it a try.

Laura Mercier cakeliner tightlined. I love it. Doesn't shift all day and can look really natural or really dramatic if I put it above the lash line as well.

For everyone who likes green eyeliner, Aldi are doing one at the moment on a special buy-£1.99 I think.

My eyes are always lined, I love: Bobbi Brown gel and kajal liners, Estee Lauder gel liners, GOSH liners from Superdrug - cheap as chips and great colours, often a 3 for 2 too, and if abroad check out Sephora's smart liner with its clever shape. Rimmel liquid eyeliner is brilliant for the price and the Bourjois Liner Feutre is pretty great too.

I went to look at the Charlotte Tilbury today.
Could the sales woman have been any more disinterested?
No.

I asked, I picked up two different pencils to compare and she didn't give a flying fuck.
So I walked away.
Boots didn't have testers in the ones I wanted.

will try again.
But not CT. Can't be arsed with bad service.

I cannot recommend the Bobbi Brown (BB) eye gel enough. It is brilliant and stays on all day, plus the choice of colours is superb. I used Clinique Quickliner for a long time, BB is far better. BB also has a retractable eyeliner relatively new which is also great. Well worth the money.

Please explain tight lining?

Report
StatisticallyChallenged · 06/04/2014 11:35

Tightlining is lining underneath your upper lashes - it makes your lashes look much fuller as it fills in all the little gaps between them but doesn't give a noticeable dark line the way normal eyeliner on the top lid does.

I find the easiest way is to apply my mascara first, then once it's dry I use a dry mascara brush to lift my eyelid slightly so I can access it more easily.

Ah ha. May give that a go later today. Although a friend told me once that you get the same effect by loading lower waterline with liner then blinking hard.
