but have a stone to lose and no clothes that fit

anyway the dress is lovely and I will wear it and make all the bejeaned mums feel underdressed

How about a wedge heeled sandal. You were wearing some lovely ones the other w/e at in-laws bash. Why do you think flat? Think ballet flats would be prettier with a dress than birkies. What colour are they?
