Make-up bag shameful secrets

Care to share? The things in your bag you love, always have and always will, but would never admit to?

Mine is Max Factor creme puff Blush I have always had horrendous skin and honestly I haven't found anything that hides my blemishes and shiny skin more...DiorSkin nude comes a close second but at £5.99 the creme puff wins hands down!

I suppose it's associated more with old women (my granny swore by it), that's the only reason it's my shameful secret...

I have a red eyeshadow which I used to wear out in all seriousness when I was 16. I'm twice that age now but I can't quite bear to get rid of it for some reason.....

Ancient tubs of Agnes B apricot colour correction cream and violet colour correction- from the mid 90's. Still good!

I have about 5 eyeshadows to create 'smoky eyes' which is a look I've never once achieved without looking like I've been in a bar fight.

I had a tip from a make up artist once that the best make up bags are clear so you can always see everything in your bag and it saves time looking for something that may or may not be there. Boots do some very cheap plastic make up cases, I have about 6 in varying sizes, so useful.

For at home I have a regular make up bag sized clear bag for all of my daily make up.

For day times I use a small wallet sized clear make up bag with little plastic pots filled with my tinted moisturiser, lip balm and various tester sized products.

For a night stay I use a medium make up bag and for a week or more there's a huge one with handles on which fits the at home bag in and whatever else I need.

Erm, I seem to have got carried away, sorry about that.

Btw what's wrong with benefit make up? I love the body shimmer stuff for the front of my legs.

Ooh just remembered I still have a Clinique Basic Eye Emphasiser from about 1980. Can't bear to chuck it out, it was so precious when I bought it.

ZacharyQuack I have a similarly sized collection of nude/lip/beigy-brown lipsticks & glosses.

Some of them are practically identical and I shudder to think of the £££s I've invested.

Still never found the actual right colour though!

My shame? I love all things beige/taupe/"natural"/neutral .... only to find, they aren't. I'm a magpie and have stuff that goes back years. And don't get me started on "beige pink/brown blush".

My makeup drawer bag shameful secret is just how many virtually identical taupe/beige/shimmery/fawn eyeshadows I have, and how much I've spent on them. Blush

And if the floods come, I could fashion a reasonably sized raft out of dark brown eyeliner pencils.

I desperately need to overhaul my make up. One thing I will never be without is Clinique Advanced Concealer, I've been using it since my teens. A tube lasts me nearly a year with daily use so its great value for money and it covers anything. Only thing is it is too dry for round the eyes so I use a different concealer, although if my circles are truly horrific the slight dryness is the lesser of two evils.

Unfortunately they stopped selling it here so I get a kindly friend to post me tubes from the US.

NomDeOrdinateur have you tried the Barbara Daily concealer from Tesco? I used to used Boing around my eyes but find the BD one cheaper and just as effective.

I do like the peacock one. I don't know what I was thinking about the second one though. It's a bit Claire's.

I was tempted by the No7 mascara on special offer in Boots because it has a gold colour container Blush How shallow.

I have one of their Limited Edition lippies from Christmas 2010 which is dark, sheer plum and in a gold case.
I carry it in my bag to whisk out every now and then.

A lipstick which is 8 years old, but I can't find the exact same colour anywhere. It's so old I am no longer sure of the make and the name of the colour is long gone ....

Apart from that I had a make up overhaul last year with some birthday money so it is all quite respectable.

Oooh apart from a horrid bright orange tube of Rimmel Mascara that was on special offer. It's crap and clashes with all my tasteful gold and silver tubes, must throw it in bin!!

Grin I have no make-up bag but all my cosmetics live in a clear plastic stand from IKEA .Very organised and it can go in the dishwasher.

On the shame stakes................there's nothing I wouldn't take out in public (and I have recently re-found Barry M ), but I do have an eyeliner automatic pencil from 1994 Blush

Free glitter eyeliners from 17 magazine or similar (I am 46). They were such beautiful colours I couldn't resist. I only wear them at Christmas.

Two pounds, you say? I woz robbed. Grin

Will try Barry M nail polish. I also love the Rimmel Salon Pro stuff. At four-five pounds, it blows any of the miles more expensive stuff I've tried out of the water.

Collection 2000 concealer here too. I think it's only £1.99 and in Superdrug all cosmetics are currently 3 for 2. Well they were last week.

I also have Barry M nail varnish. I stick them at the back of the drawer behind the Chanel.

All my compacts are horrible with dirty looking sponges, broken hinges and speckled mirrors. Or worse, the powder is broken and drops crumbs everywhere. I hide them in the drawer and use a brush Blush

Pinot would have my arse if she knew!

Binks, the peacock one is utterly delightful.

Collection 2000 concealer. FOUR POUNDS. And it's brilliant.

I counted the black liquid eyeliners in my (small) makeup last night and I have SEVENTEEN of them. Blush

And this one looks like it could have potential. Maybe I will finally buck my ideas up on this makeup bag malarkey.

Mine is my makeup bag itself. It's tatty as shit, but I want the replacement to be 'the right bag'. What that means is that I've spent six months with one that is falling to bits and covered in glitter and scribbles because the right bag and I are yet to meet.

Ooh this takes me back to MF panstick. What I thought was great coverage at the time looks like Caspar the friendly ghost in photos.

Love the biddy smell mind.

I thought this was going to be a thread about everyone's make-up bags spilling over with pencil shavings and used tissues

obviously not mine cough

Oh my ma used to wear creme Puff, I didn't know they still made it.

Does it really cover evenly?

I suppose the thing in my makeup bag I'm most Blush about is an old slightly pearly brown eye shadow that I use to fill in my eye brows.

It's old, it's tatty and it works.
