Shaving my hairy chin

I do feel I should nc for this, but cba.

Is it bonkers to have used a razor to get rid of the hairs on my chinny chin chin? Plucking isn't getting it. Hair is light in colour, I am not expecting heavy stubble!

Shave! Honestly, men are the experts at this. There is NO WAY that shaving can make your hair thicker. How would that work anyway?

I wish I'd discovered it years ago. Get a decent man's razor, not one of those rubbishy ones aimed at women. It'll go over your skin as smooth as silk, and get rid of all the peach fuzz hairs.

Makeup goes on a treat afterwards. It takes almost no time at all either.

It's a myth that the hair will grow back thicker. It's just that it's been cut off bluntly so that it appears thicker at the first regrowth.

Not a problem if you keep up the shaving.

By way of an update, I had a slightly stubbly feeling the next day but (ignoring all the good advice) went over it again. Since then I've had less growth back than I normally would and I've plucked out anything that has come back. Still have a remarkably smooth chin and upper lip. Think though I'll stick with regular plucking and veeting my upper lip, just in case.....

Just wondering, how do you cope with growing it long enough to epilate/ wax/ thread?

Report
valiumredhead · 24/04/2013 12:51

It grows back no differently than if you thread or wax ime.

If the hairs are white, someone already pointed out that laser and IPL won't work on them. I know this because I've been to three different places to get advice for because I'm really noticing a lot of white hairs now. I've also got that goatee thing referred to by Cadbury.
Shaving you're going to find yourself doing it every day and it will definitely feel stubbly.
Upper lip I will try threading and/or waxing, but for my chin I'm going to do electrolysis. It's a long term commitment and it can be expensive but nothing else is going to work on the strong white hairs I've got there.

I would have thought that shaving would leave stubble or at least stubble would grow in fairly fast- thinking 5 o-clock shadow and as the hair is cut it appears to grow in more coarsely.
Thread it yourself, there are lots of tutorials on youtube.

I have mine waxed at the salon. Quick and easy if you don't count the pain. I'm not really hairy anywhere except my face Sad and I have the little tuft of goatee thing going on just under my lower lip, you know in the bit that goes in. Blush

The hair WON'T grow back courser - thats absolute bollocks! Confused My colleague buys wax strips from Boots and does hers. I do believe it took her a couple of attempts to get it spot on but now you'd never guess.

I have mine waxed at a salon every 4 weeks.

I am developing a chin issue. I'm plucking at the minute and will never shave. Once you start, that's it.

I did get electrolysis on my top lip (every 6 weeks for three years) and that fixed that. My DM is currently getting IPL, but they do shave for that and you're not allowed to pluck in between. It's looked horrendous at first, it's starting to look slightly better, but she's spent a fortune (currently around 20 sessions, significantly more than the "typical 6 sessions" quoted).

I'm veering towards more electrolysis for my chin.

What is bad about shaving?

The Braun silk epil wet & dry is good. Comes with a small cap for facial use but I get impatient / wimpy so I just use it with normal cap.

You can use it with shower gel / shave foam when you do other areas so I just use it with facial wash when doing face, hurts less.

Also make sure to do short flicks rather than holding it in place as that will hurt like f**k

Nooo !! Please wax or thread !!

And check groupon for vouchers on IPL and laser hair removal

OK, I don't think I'd better risk shaving again. So:any thoughts about epilators? Can I use on top lip as well? I don't want to use veet, it irritates my skin and the chin area's too big for it to be covered in spots.

I had heard that about laser treatment too. Most of my rogue hairs are now white, so that won't work. Bah!

Lidl had some on offer last week for £14.99.

Can anyone recommend an epilator please?

Does it leave skin red?

Also do they grow back less frequently?

Also how long does it have to be for threading?

Vaniqa in combination with Yasmin pill worked for me but cannot use when ttc, pg or bf. I started ttc 2007, conceived 2010 then bf then immediately pg again now bf. so not possible at moment.

Laser is no good on white hairs - it burns "pigment" so if you have white hair it does nothing...I think electrolysis does though

There's a reason men shave - because it works well. If there was a more effective way to remove hair they would be doing it.

Lady shave is the way to go!

Plucking, waxing etc encourages growth as it stimulates the hair follicule or something

Ooooh, tweezing my chin hairs is one of my secret gross-out pleasures in life (along with cleaning the loo, and - ahem - picking my son's nose). Don't shave; you'll take off the nice fine hairs as well as the coarse ones. If you really do have lots, laser treatment?

I second an epilator. I don't have chin hairs yet but my mother assures me its only a matter of time Wink

But I have an epilator and it works on hairs the size of a grain of sand so definitely the way forward and you don't have to be able to "see" to do it (once again this is not yet a problem for me, no you probably, but my mother assures me that I will not only become hirsute, but be practically blind in due course)

I've just had my chin threaded. It's lovely now. Please don't shave!
