I thought I loved shopping until I went to Hollister

I can clothes shop till I drop, but this evening I nearly had a teenaged melt down in Hellisterhollister where I took my teenagers after a similarly traumatic experience in Abercrombie and fuckwit Fitch, for a treat whilst on holidaying US.
It's horrendous and I thought I was going to cry;

Crap lighting ( longsighted so couldn't read any prices or judge colours)
Crap sales staff
One cashier so huge queue
Avarage quality, no better than Gap at hugely inflated prices
Annoying music
The stuff my kids liked on the mannequins was not available in store and could no way be removed from the dummy.

I calmed down after a splurge in Mac and half a bottle of Pinot Grigio and a peanut butter cheesecake ( damn!!)

Rant over, anyone else feel same about other stores?

When I went in with DSs, I bought them a T shirt each. When we got home, we decided DS1's needed to be the next size up so I gave it to XH to exchange (he worked nearby). When the replacement arrived it was hot pink rather than red and he refused to go back in again to change it :o

Thankfully, DS1 was still happy to wear it.

As you can see from teh photo, there were actually people having their photo taken with the half naked young men. At least I had some decorum and I was old enough to be their mother

Lol at using iPhone torch........why didn't I think of that? //grin
Agree that I'm obv not their age demo....but Per Una !//shock
Sports Direct also brings me out in a cold sweat.
And you have reminded me about the horrors of school shoe shopping.....my poor DS has H width feet (duck) and buying him shoes has always been a nightmare .....his first pair looked like girls shoes! Now a man size 12 it's impossible.

I did not even realise the Hollister in city centre Manchester was a shop from the outside it looked like a bar.I could hardly see the clothing the lighting was that poor.I messed up several piles of hoodies whilst looking for DD size, despite there being many bungles there was not a single garment in her size, whilst the young trendy shop assistant scowled at me and never once asked if I wanted any help.I could not wait to get out of the place, but could not even find the bloody door it was that dark. Also I nearly feel over when I saw the price tags, what a load of overpriced crap sold in the most uncomfortable environment I have ever experienced.Told DD she needed to go herself

I like Gilly Hicks ( there's often a half dressed young man outside to make things easy on the eye on the way in )
I just look tired and old and ask the supermodels sales assistants to find all that DD wants
( actually look in the sale section , I found a lovely black cardi for £15 that I've worn a lot ! )
I can't bear places like Brantano , Sports Direct , New Look , they all sell cheap and nasty crap , but not at cheap prices .
At least Hollister smells nice .

Actually, this has just reminded me. My parents were visiting the other day, and my dad's face lit up: "we went in a new store in Exeter the other day. Hollister. It's amazing. Just like a nightclub, can't see anything". My jaw dropped, and I said "yes, it's for teenagers really dad. Most adults hate it". "Oh, no, I thought it was amazing".

I'm still confused by that conversation.

I ALWAYS knock over a pile of t-shirts in Hollister, simply by turning round. My kids are always mortified and say I'll get done for vandalising the place. I will try the iPhone torch idea, though. Maybe then, everything won't look brown....and I won't have to take it over to the door to see the real colour..and get done for shop lifting.

God, I've just managed to wipe the memory of my first and last visit to Hollister.

I may be out of their target age range, BUT I'M THE ONE WITH THE READIES!!!

Do your kids allow you to visit Hollister with them?!!!

I like Hollister's jeans, they wear much better than topshop. However, I feel like I'm in fucking Jurassic Park when I go in because of all the plants, darkness and loud scary music noises.

That place gives me an instant headache and RAGE! As you go in they might as well just stamp "I am an idiot and have been ripped off" on your forehead (which they could do without you noticing as it is so dark). Talk about emperors new clothes. And those teenagers that work in there have no self respect, selling their souls to the corporate man. What a joke. (I am so old.... crawls into corner to cry....)

I thought it was a naff club in a shopping centre when it opened. Weird queues, dark inside etc
Not for the likes of me but I still do Urban Outfitters although increasingly it looks like tat from a jumble sale during my university days
