Can I get a bikini tummy in 2 weeks?

I'm 50 (but with a Wii age of 30! and fit through yoga and sport), bmi of 22 (8st 12lb) with a decent figure - I've just lost about 5lb in weight in readiness for holidays.

But - my tummy is no longer smooth and has cellulite-like bumps.. something like the top 2 pictures here://hubpages.com/hub/BABY-FAT-Sacrifice-of-Being-a-MOM - although mine is smoother than those pics.

Do you wise ladies reckon I could do enough in the next fortnight to carry off a bikini (we're not going anywhere uber-smart), or, at age 50 (sigh) should I resign myself to a tankini?

I'm thinking of a more "mature" bikini btw like this www.figleaves.com/uk/product.asp?product_id=SBF-SS117170 and with these shorts: www.figleaves.com/uk/product.asp?product_id=SBF-SS117173

And if it's worth trying for the bikini tummy, what should I concentrate on? I'm already doing abdominal workouts/core strength stuff and I guess body brushing might help.

I wore a bikini last year btw, but then put in about half a stone since last summer and have now finally lost it.

Everyone will be looking in horror at the barrel shaped Italian (or German, or French etc) man in the far-too-tight-and-tiny scary speedos anyway, they won't be in the least bothered about you!! Grin

If you want to wear a bikini, wear a bikini. Once you are on the beach nobody will bother, and really it's about enjoying yourself not appearance. A little sarong can come in handy for the walk along the beach if any self-consciousness creeps in. Accessorise with a colourful beach bag and hat or whatnot.
Just get out there, get that bikini on, slather on sun cream, lay back and enjoy!! Grin

I'm 40 and resisted buying a bikini before we went on holiday. I just felt stupid trying them on... no boobs and mummy tummy, though fairly slim. So we went away and I sat on my lounger in my matronly black 1950s-style swimsuit and just felt over-dressed (and hot!) The sights you see in bikinis, I really wish I had just worn one and be done with it. I have since bought one in the sales for next years holiday.

So I say go for it!

What uplifting posts, thanks!

I've placed an order with figleaves for several styles - my teenage dds will no doubt tell me in no uncertain terms whether they'll want to be seen with me in them - and if I'm brave, I may post a few pics on my profile for advice in this topic.

In the meantime, I'll try to cut out the alcohol and processed food to do the best I can - it really gets hard as one ages.

Clarence - I totally agree about blokes not caring and women fretting about themselves.

Wear a bikini. Sounds like you have a fab figure Envy . Ive seen plenty of gorgeous women on beaches across Europe with little tummies like that. It's normal for many mums! Doesn't make them any less attractive IMO. How Sad to think that people feel that a figure like that should be hidden. What a shallow world we live in. Enjoy the holiday Smile.

I always have a panic about whether to wear a bikini, and then when I'm actually on holiday all my worries disappear when I realise that all shapes and sizes of women wear them and noone bats an eyelid. No woman who has born children would ever be expected to have a flat smooth stomach, in fact it's completely normal to NOT have one. I actually now am far more impressed to see confident ladies in bikinis who have wobbly bellies than much thinner ones who cover up.

Blokes certainly don't care, and other women will be too busy worrying about their own outfits to be bothered about yours. And if you have a sarong just throw it on any time you need to go anywhere, so you'll only be baring you body getting in and out if the pool.

It sounds like you've got a lovely body size so I'd say go for it!

To me you sound like you have an amazing figure and better then people half your age. You are not over weight and whilst you may have a bit of a over hang or saggy skin around the tummy its because youv'e had children. I have stretch marks around my legs as a result of pregnancy and always feel self conscious about wearing a bikini but as soon as im on the beach and I have a little look around I realise half the women on the beach do not have a perfect bikini body and I feel alot better about myself. If you feel confident wear it and take a tankini as well you could always cover up with a kaftan when walking around. A bit of toning, moiturising and a nice tan will make you feel and look alot better.

If you like the feeling of the sun and sea on your stomach, wear your bikini with pride. Sod dieting and "bikini tummies"!

Thanks - Helen Mirren is my role model. Sadly, though, I'm coming to the conclusion that you may be right!

A tankini rather than a one piece would be because a tankini is slightly cooler (in the temperature sense) and makes going to the loo easier/

TBH it is not an age issue at all- it's how you look- remember Helen Mirren at 61 in a bikini?

If your skin is anything like that in that link, I'd say cover it up.

Not being harsh but old skin and bikinis don't work. It's nothing to do with your shape.

If your skin isl oose or saggy no amount of exercise will shift that- it's a knife job.

Persoanlly I'd suggest a nice flattering one piece, unless there is any reason why you want your tummy exposed!

Or, if youreally must, a tankini.

I am older than you but look considerably younger than I am ( so I am told!!) and my BMI is 19.2. However, I still feel more comfortable with my tummy covered. I have seen real sights on the beach and that's their choice- some women don't care.
