Juicy Couture chavvy or not?

Hi Everyone. Expecting my first baby 1st October. Already feel like I've lost my dress sense and live in scruffs (when I'm not in my work uniform).

A friend who had a baby last year said that after her son was born she made a point of getting herself up, dressed, made up etc before she properly started the day. Have to say I saw her at 2 weeks and she looked amazing.

Sorry sidetracking here slightly. My point is I really don't want to turn into a sruffy zombie with greasy hair etc. This is what people have hinted might happen.

I asked my husband last week what he thought of me buying a couple of Juicy tracksuits to throw on around the house in the couple of weeks after baby comes along.

His reply 'I think they are very flattering to the female figure'

'Are they chavvy?' I asked.

'Only if you wear them strutting down the King's Road in full makeup, fresh manicure and designer handbag'

No offence meant to anyone but should I buy one?

Sorry - I hate all tracksuits.

If you are just around the house why not wear leggings with a suitable top they are very comfy

Are they chavvy? Well, yeah, kinda, though there are chav "ways" of wearing them and not. The plain ones, trousers only, round the house, and no other chav-stamps and it wouldn't make you a chav if you otherwise weren't.

The chav thing doesn't matter though. You are either one or you are not, and its not particularly dependent on whether you have a Juicy. So forget that for a minute.

If you like the way they look, and your husband likes them, and they are for wearing around the house, they are comfortable, they flatter you, who the hell cares?

If its for throwing on around the house, you and your husband will see them. Your husband has already confirmed he likes them. If you don't hate them, then buy them! Unless the postman or window cleaner is grading you points out of 10 for poise and elegance.

Just to add - I like Uggs in the winter. They are warm. They are comfy. I know they are not particularly stylish. Some think they are chavvy, others think they are ugly, etc etc. Sometimes they are chavvy, though I dont believe I am chavvy (I just can't be, I'm not even British, if I were to be something I'd really have to be a Bogan because I'm Aussie) but anyway.

I wear them around the house, sort of like slippers. I might put the bins out in them, I might do the school run in them if I'm not going on somewhere straight after, and I might go to the shop to get a pint of milk in them. But generally they are an indoor boot for me.

But I dont' really care if other people hate them. They serve a purpose for me. They are practical. If people say they look shit, I'm okay with that. I think they probably do look a bit shit, in a teddy bear's foot kind of way. Its cool. I'm okay with that!

You need to develop this attitude. It comes with age, sadly, and scarily...

I'd look around for more classy loungewear, as someone else said there is lots of lovely stuff around. Toast is worth a look. Quality jersey basics in calm colours you can mix and match would be more stylish than the ol' Juicies. Leggings, loose grey marl or black joggers, and jersey vests and tunics all good. If you go out, chuck on some Uggs and you're set.

Mind you Juicy washes well and I do understand the appeal - you can bung it on and feel fresh and shiny without thought! I have a long grey and black stripey velour sweater from Juicy I wear with leggings.

I have managed 4 pregnancies without ever feeling the slightest need to resort to wearing a tracksuit of any kind. In fact, as a supply teacher wore one to school for sports day (not Juicy obv) and felt awful all day - it's the kind of stuff I'd wear if I had flu and couldn't move off the sofa. Well obviously it wasn't a matching track suit as that would be just far too sad. Sports wear is only for sports and that very definitely includes trainers. Converse are allowed in ther situations. Fitflops should be blown up on sight.

OK have never been a small size 6 but have never felt the need to wear vile overpriced clothes either.

And I'm very old. But my beautiful teenagers agree with me.

I'm buying hush cardigowns and lounge pants for post baby wear but even these will not leave the house, just for the days when visitors come over. I would invest in really good maternity jeans and bigger size ordinary cotton tops and expect to still be wearing them post birth. My first baby i hardly left the house, 2nd only 2 a play area or the shops in the week or 2 after this time i'm expecting to be on the school run the next day so trying to pre plan.

Juicy tracksuits, they're ok if thats the image your going for ie not so much Jools Oliver more Alex Curran.

you don't see many on the king's road that's for sure! does that answer your question... honestly I'd save your money for when you are back to your best and spend it on something better than tracksuits!

These two are the founders of JC. Judge for yourself whether they look, um, tasteful. I'm only surprised neither of them is called Chardonnay.

Liz Claiborne, the company who bought JC and currently owns it, ironically is the original creator of the mumsy mum concept in the US. Think beige and taupe extremely dull and conventional clothes sold in really downmarket locations.

sweaty betty do some lovely comfy and stretchy lounge wear. i was just drooling over their shop window on the way to the office this morning. If you are specfically after a label, a lot of the sweaty betty range is done by Stella MacCarthy.

i had a pair of lovely jersey full leg yoga pants that i wore in the latter stages of pregnancy and post partum. The waist band was more like a jersey sash and could be pushed down under the bump if i wanted or up and over. They were the absolute most confortable trousers i have ever owned and they looked perfectly respectable with a nice top. I cried a little bit when it came time to put them away. i got mine from Blooming Marvelous (RIP) but i know JJMB do them too.

Yes lovely loungewear. I got some new pjs and a CK nightie before dd was born and afterwards were the only things that made me feel lovely and comfortable.
It is normal to feel a bit of a wreck for a few weeks after having a baby. Only one girl I knew managed make up!
My one thing was to make sure I had a shower everyday. Even though I just left my hair to dry those 10 mins under hot water felt like a spa treatment!

i had one once Blush

i have to say that YES they are chavvy. BUT they do fit very well and are actually very flattering.

and tbh will probably look better than maternity jeans and a t-shirt imo.

Gap do lovely loungewear. I'm a size 6-8, and I find their size xs fits me really well. I bought a pale grey tracksuit from there just before dd was born, and it was great for throwing on for night time feeds, or lounging during the day.

With regard to your hair, there is no reason why having a baby should mean greasy hair! I hate it if my hair's not clean, so I tried to wash it most days, you just have to grab a moment when baby's asleep!

Personally I didn't bother with make-up in the early days, if I was just at home, as I tried to grab sleep at any opportunity, and smudged mascara is not a good look!

Best of luck, and just enjoy your baby!
