The Philadelphia team are conducting a search to find <a class="break-all" href="http://ad-emea.doubleclick.net/clk;233108829;57157683;r?www.philadelphia.co.uk/localheroes" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">10 "Local Heroes" - folks who have a recipe for a dish they cook for their family which uses everyday ingredients and includes Philadelphia and who are willing to share it with the nation - and they have asked Mumsnet to help promote the search.

They say "We want YOUR recipe ideas. We are looking for ten deliciously quick and easy Philly recipes, one from each of our ten home cooks. If you?re chosen to represent your region as our Philly Local Hero, you could feature in our TV ads, on our posters or online. Oh, and a there's also a cash reward of £1,000 for selected Philly Local Heroes to make it an even tastier proposition"

There are some application requirements so <a class="break-all" href="http://ad-emea.doubleclick.net/clk;233108829;57157683;r?www.philadelphia.co.uk/localheroes" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank"> please do visit their website to find out more and to apply to take part.
Good luck!

I just HAVE to post this!!!
I was actually chosen to be a Philly local hero, I heard about it from elsewhere and after being chosen, found this discussion page.
My house was a bombsite BEFORE I entered, it spurred me to have a good tidy up. My kids were soooo excited and thoroughly enjoyed the day the crew came and filmed us all.
The crew were exemplory, well mannered and made me feel like a star. Nothing like the crew mentioned above and not a black puffa jacket in sight!!!!!
My trip to London for the filming was AMAZING!!! Chauffeur driven to a magnificent hotel, wonderful food. On set everyone was wonderful and made me feel like a million dollars.
This took me right out of my comfort zone and I am soooooo pleased I did it!
No, I'm not a stick insect, I'm a big girl, but what the hell!
I had such a great time and they were all wonderful to me. Next time there is such an opportunity, just go for it! You've nothing to loose!

I LOVE sprouts, and that sounds fab, MarineIguana!

I have a great one, my sprout and bacon pasta! but again I don't want to be on an ad or involved in any way, but they/MNers can have my recipe.

For 4

Fry 1 onion in olive oil for a few mins
Add 8 slices of bacon, chopped, and fry till cooked
Add peeled/prepped and sliced brussels sprouts, about half a kilo? - or just a supermarket packet, fry for a minute or two
Add a glass of white wine, stir and cover/simmer/saute till sprouts start to soften
Stir on a high heat until liquid reduced/everything cooked
Stir in normal-sized pack of Philadelphia

Stir the whole lot into cooked pasta and put parmesan on top

It's SO NICE (if you like sprouts)

The last time I bought Philly was for Jamie Oliver's vanilla cheesecake, two whole tubs so a good thing it turned out big enough to feed at least 12 people!

When I have an urgent sweet craving I mix some with icing sugar but usually I just have it with walnuts and dates on linseed bread when I'm out on my bike or up a mountain somewhere.

Hey that might be a better film. Make the film where you actually eat it. I can recommend Blencathra or the Cairngorms!!

the Lidl brand of philly is absolutely to die for, muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better than philadelphia or any of the own brands. i don't use philly for cooking, it's gross. use CREAM, people.

I'm torn. I'd quite like a grand but would really hate to be on tv.

If they'd offer to do up my kitchen pre-filming I might get over my publicity-phobia...

(I realise this is unlikely: my secret cream-cheese recipe is not that good).

Ditto, am very bored of real people in adverts (apart from the Carphone Warehouse X Factor ones which seem to work better) and SO bored of brands asking me to upload my videos and photos.

My recipe:

  1. Spread philly on 2 pieces of bread, stick together, cut off crusts.
  2. Place head in hands that this is all that DTs will eat.
  3. Eat the delicious cooked meal that they refused and follow with a packet of mince pies to make up for it.
  4. Let out waistband accordingly.

No, you can not come and film this :)

And Rolandbutter an even easier way to make your one (as if it was hard in the 1st place!) is to turn tub upsidedown on plate and pour sweet chilli sauce over it. No mixing required.

Pasts free lasagne had me baffled for a minute Grin

I don't have any ideas but I like this thread for giving me some.
I like the very easy carbonara type meal one and the tub of philly with sweet chilli sauce and dipping things is amazing but quite scary when you realise how much philly you've eaten in 1 go!

I'm a bit fed up of the real people thing too. Kellogs have done it too with rice crispies haven't they?
Think about how much profit they must be making already with charging twice as much as supermarket brand and then they're saving money on not using real actors.

I only buy proper philly when it's on special offer.

I'd be happy with a £1000 as prize money, just not for letting a film crew in my houseHmm

Having been around them on occasions, & having a few friends in that business, I totally agree with jules on that one - laughed at your shades & puffa jacket comment Jules - thats exactly how my 2 cameraman mates tend to dress - must be a uniform Grin

you missed my key tip, lulumaam, you need to leave a little of the pasta water in to make a 'sauce' otherwise it gets claggy and sticks Grin

Lulumaam · 07/12/2010 20:54
