I like the anetdotal experience threads. I think this one is important because we all invest so much into our 'battles', - win them and it only gets us an inch closer to what our children need.

There are very few people who we can celebrate with or who will understand how hard it was to get that 1 hour extra funding, and why it is such an acheivement, - so please, - I'd love to hear your success stories. I'm in the fortunate position of having 2 today!

Also, I think it is really important to remind people that just making a little fuss can sometimes give great outcomes.

Loving the inspirational stories, and sad to see how much they cost . Worth it though, - these are very lucky children.

  1. Got statement hours increased at pre-school to 100%

  1. Got DD's hearing loss diagnosed after insisting on a second opinion and self-refering to an ENT consultant. This was after physio, SN teacher and HV said we were mad and denied hearing loss .

  1. Got out of area Audiology to fit hearing aids after refusing twice (thank you local MP and consultant).

Currently I have a complaint pending with Social Services as their Disabled Childrens Team does not actually help disabled children. Have also sent off complaint to local hospital today for not diagnosing DD's deafness in three years of testing.
Let battle commence.......

my best battles:

  1. managed to get dd seen and eventually given a correct diagnosis

  1. managed to persuade social services that dd's problems were medical and not due to us being a problem family (as suggested by her headteacher)

  1. got my own way about using mobility aids as and when needed (not so much through silver-tongued oratory as through quietly popping out to the shops and buying a wheelchair and a pair of crutches with my own money)

  1. won the appeal to get dd into a secondary with wheelchair access

  1. think I have finally got the LEA to accept that an 65-80% attendance record from a child with chronic pain does not represent failure- it's a huge bloody achievement

  1. got disabled transport
