an mini-update on dd2

anyone remember the pre-school concerns about my dd2 two years ago? theyraised concerns about ASD, and 'had never seen a child work with such intensity' before.

anyway, dd2 is now almost all the way through reception. she cant hold a pencil correctly, but has the neatest writing in her class (all class work is displayed, there is a marked difference between dd2 writing in full sentances and the other children in her class), her reading is aheadof the rest of the class, and she is apparently a very delightful lovely child, who is a bit of a perfectionist.

i have no idea at all if her quirkiness back then was due to boredom, or reaction to the situation with dh health. she is still quirky, to the point of being hilarious with it, she is a bit of a clown, very hyper still, and still doesnt sleep as much as the other children. she is still 'mad as a hatter' but so lovely. she is more curddly and loving now as well. she still yelps and makes noises randomly, still has that lous screech, but maybe i;m just used to it now lol.

I am starting to think the pre-school just werent equipped at all to deal with a child outside of the 'norm' on either side of the scale, so much so, that i never sent dd3 there. we decided to keep her at home, and we are attempting nursery in sept.

I think pre-schools and HVs etc have a pre-conceived idea as to what is normal, and when something isnt average/normal, then it's considered abnormal, which isnt correct.

Does she have hearing problems?

no, she passed all hearing checks. BUT they said of her pattern ofd speech is very similar of having had glue ear, so they cant be sure it wasnt a problem when she was younger.

she has a high pain threshold, and a lot off minor ailments went unnoticed. one nigth she let out one huuuge scream, clutched her ear and went to sleep. took her to the gp's the next day, they said her eardrum was about to burst and she had an nasty infection. she just didnt tell anyone she was in pain.

she stil ldoesnt feel pain much, but at least now tells us if there is blood.

That's what I thought misdee.

DD passed all basic HV hearing tests. Was only tests in the last year with the earphones that showed she had a hearing loss. Turns out she'd learned to lip-read very well.........
