Gah! DS is being transferred over to an EHCP

So, I've spent the last 9 months going toe-to-toe with the LA over DS2's statement. Overhauled Part 2, 3, got a change to named school in 4, expended blood, sweat, tears, the usual. Got it finalised about seven weeks ago.

Letter arrives from LA today. DS2 will be one of the first in the borough to transfer over to an EHCP. School and LA will be setting up some meetings in the next few weeks. Lots of lovely meetings. We're going to be filling out an "Our Story" form, and then we'll all put the EHCP together as a team.

I can barely contain my enthusiasm. No, fuck that. I can barely contain the urge to self-harm. Just when we had a legal document that finally nailed DS's needs, nailed his provision and nailed his placement, off we go again. I've got no doubt that we'll get the EHCP, but I'm pretty sure that we're in for another fight to keep the specific & quantified provision & placement Sad

I don't know if anyone else on MNSN is starting down the EHCP route yet. I'll keep you updated on how things go - it's a Pathfinder LA with a slightly better rep for efficiency and a slightly lower rep for psychopathy than most, so fingers crossed.....

Ah - that's where this comes in:
(in 2014/15, local authorities must take account of the wishes of families
of children in year 6 in determining whether to conduct a transfe
r review in that
academic year)

So basically, the LA have to transfer him to an EHCP unless I say no.

Yes some people are getting letters from La who have read the advice and are asking them if they wish to or not whereas others are saying you are as they probably haven't read the full advice!

Me - I've just got a letter saying your son is in year 6, maybe you would like to go and look at a mainstream school........ Hmmm let me think about that - he's in an out of county specialist asd school????? Yep sure a mainstream secondary will suit him just fine.................... Not. Really hoping it's just a generic letter and my LA are not up to some kind of trick......

I was forwarded a letter from my senco that the school received from the la. The LA said the Dept of Ed are recommending that pupils going through a transition are switched to ECHP. I did say to my DH, funny how the LA are being so efficient. I've become so cynical I can only conclude it is in their interest and not mine (or rather dd's). And they fact they didn't mention I have a choice at this stage and they are doing it through the senco. Well...
Hmm

Thank you for the link ugger _ it is proving useful for so many of us to avoid being hoodwinked incorrectly advised by our LAs.

And result in my case - rang back the LA to make sure that they had noted that I wasn't giving permission for them to issue an EHCP (which would have been entirely inappropriate because they just followed the old SA process) and ...... drum roll.......
DS's case has been to panel today and they are issuing a proposed statement not a NIL!!!
Not that I have any idea how good/useless the proposed statement is going to be, but we are a step further.

So for me that will be 2 proposed statements issued within a month. OTOH I do have 2 children who are not in school at the moment....
